I understand your discouraged feelings, Think. I know you've read all the threads, so you've seen us express frustration from time to time. It comes with the territory. I do believe that Detective Henderson is diligently following leads and tips. I imagine there is a lot of information LE has gathered during their searches and early in the investigation, but they obviously don't have enough to make an arrest that would stick...at this point. Henderson has come right out recently and strongly indicated that they believe/know Ames was involved in Stephanie's disappearance. Proving it is another matter.

As far as there being a certain "type" of case that gets extra attention, I think there is some truth in that, at least as far as the media is concerned. I also imagine that LE has to "triage" cases based to some degree on evidence available, danger to the public, pressure from the family and the public, etc. I prefer to believe that they don't base that decision on the victim's history and "appeal", or influential POI's, although it's easy to become cynical and make that assumption in some cases (Rebecca Zahau, JonBenet Ramsey). Also, LE, being human, does make mistakes and wrong assumptions in their investigations (McStay family).

You've probably seen me make the point on these threads that crime victims and/or victim's families MUST be proactive and not just sit back and leave everything to LE. When our home was burglarized, I did my own investigation and solved it. There is no way that LE could have gained access like I did as a private citizen. If someone in my family disappeared or was murdered, I would be actively working with LE whether they liked it or not. I would hire a PI if possible. Two really good examples of this are the families of Sheila Franks and Danielle Bertolini Brooks, two women who disappeared in Humboldt county, CA (they each have threads on WS). Unfortunately, their efforts have not paid off yet, but at least they have the satisfaction of knowing that they did all they could.

Here is a quote from an article that supports this point:

http://justiceinmiami.blogspot.com/2008/07/everything-you-need-to-know-when-your.html

Not everyone has the personality, inner strength and ability to make that kind of effort though.

I didn't mean to write an essay, but you raised some issues that got me going. :) and besides, right now there isn't anything new to talk about. :(

All of this is JMO.

Lilibet,

You're such a sweetheart! I want to clarify that I was in no way saying LE is not doing their job. Detective Henderson: If you are reading this, "THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!" for your caring and digging into this case! God bless you!!

I have to admit that my last post was all about how many comments/posts are on here, as opposed to the amount on some other cases...but maybe that is really unfair, being that this case has been "out there," for a longer period of time. It just seems like sometimes people are more attracted to certain "type" of cases...again, my "bad" if I am assuming things not even there! And really, does it matter about the amount of posts? Or does it matter MORE about the intensity of caring from those who post? Yeah, think I know the answer to that one! Everyone here is so doggone special. Stephanie wouldn't have it any other way -- I am convinced of that!

I apologize, again...just my personal frustration. Stephanie did so much for others, so this case has really touched me.

No worries, Think. I didn't think you were criticizing LE, just wondering how things work "backstage." I second your thanks to Detective Henderson. I can only imagine how frustrating it is for him to have this investigation drag on and be so difficult. :tantrum:

But yes, here on WS, some cases attract more attention and tons of posts for one reason or another. I think I vented about that recently. :-) But we do have a wonderful bunch here for Stephanie, and I'm so happy you joined us. Both times Stephanie's case has been featured, lovely new people show up who are drawn to her for various reasons. I have a daughter her age, so Stephanie could be my missing "baby girl."

OT: I am officially going blind and/or nuts. I looked at the Smilie List over and over and I saw lots of new ones, but I couldn't find one of my favorites--the one banging a head against a wall in frustration. That's how I felt not being able to find it. Then I looked again and there it was, in the second row.

:banghead::banghead: :gaah:

Here are a few that are either new or I hadn't noticed before:

Thanks, Lilibet, for your very thoughtful reply. I am SO bummed out. I just finished a goofy little icon "narrative" to post and then my connection went out and I lost the whole thing....

Oh please do try again. We LOVE goofy little icon narratives. There seems to be a limit of 20 smilies/post. I had to delete one on my post above to get it to post.

I will...I just need to hunt down those little icons again.:back:

I'll also make sure to count them this time! :thumb:

Stephanie's Story

Once upon a time, there was a lovely, :happydance:, red-haired young lady filled with :sunshine:. Her presence was a :gift: from God.

Not only did Stephanie love to help others :heartluv: all she could, but she was a true, caring friend and :nurse: to any :cat: :chicken::moose::lamb::beagle::cow: -- or any other animal needing her attention. She loved nature:daisy:...a fun celebration:party:...and teasing her friends:laugh:...she was always excited about her next creative projects :skip:and had the heart of an :angel2: but spirit of a :viking:.

One beautiful July 4th :happy4th: about a year ago, happiness gave way to :anguish: when Stephanie abruptly disappeared.

Stephanie's Story Part 2

When dear Stephanie's friends and family realized the gravity of the situation, the shock, pain and horror set in.:tears:

Where was their loving, dependable, conscientious Stephanie?

While LE dug in :copcar: , Stephanie's case was brought to the attention of a special bunch of :websleuther:s. Day-after-day...week-after-week...month-after-month...these special online :detective:s with huge :heartbeat:s gave of themselves to try to help:

They :read: up on all the details they could find...they spent time  about what may have happened...they :gathering: to brainstorm...they :tantrum:...they sometimes felt like they were :banghead:...they honored Stephanie by finding things to  about...they :prayer:ed for Stephanie to be found...and sometimes they just couldn't :bed: because they couldn't stop worrying about Stephanie.

But mainly, this special group came to :loveyou: Stephanie, support each other :grouphug: through their efforts and hold out hope that justice :judge:will be served for extraordinary Stephanie...as her light :star2:guides all who do for her what she did every day of her life -- care.:heartbeat:

I LOVE how you captured Stephanie's essence, Think! You are the smilie queen. :goldcrown:

Thanks, Lilibet! :loveyou:

You would not believe what a hard time I had completing that -- my device kept seizing up on me and I kept having to redo stuff -- I was a HOT MESS.:gaah:

Oh, but at least the IT folks were nice to me. I got a "You have 21 icons and can only have 20" message.

I'm sure the message SHOULD have read: "You idiot! Didn't Lilibet TELL you that you have to stick with 20 icons?! Can't you count, doofus?":floorlaugh:

:hilarious: I'm sooooo glad you persevered. What we do for Stephanie! It's wonderful. Yes, we do get carried away with all the wonderful icons. I can't count either. I did an icon post months ago and I was so frustrated that I had to eliminate some of them. :pullhair: It's hard to choose which ones to dump. You did great!

Thanks, Lilibet. :) I was so happy to do it...frustrated with MYSELF (the "Lucy Ball of Technology" that I am!), but I really wanted to do something to honor Stephanie and you guys, even if it was just a small thing.

I sure learned a lot about how many icons there are, wow. Pretty darn cool! Wish we could use those in "real life" -- just press an icon so people knew what we were thinking/feeling...uh, then again, maybe not! ;)

Love it!!

:bananalama: [a banana on a lama?...hmmm, unusual...Looks more like a seal to me -- a "lama seal," LOL).

Wow, can I get OT or what? Still think Stephanie would chuckle though. ;)

Today is one year and two months since Stephanie disappeared. It's after 11:00 pm here in southern Oregon, and I can't stop thinking about where her car might have been taken that night. If we could figure that out, we'd likely have answers. There have been no updates. :(

Meanwhile, Ames and company are enjoying their narcissistic, useless lives in Florida. :stormingmad:

Don't let them get away with it, Detective Henderson! I know you will solve this murder of a caring, hardworking, devoted daughter and friend.

After 3.5 years, the partial remains of Holly Bobo have been found by people looking for ginseng in the woods of TN, and identified by dental records. Her family can give her a proper burial and the trial of her killers, arrested this spring, can move forward with no room for a defense. I haven't followed this case closely, but it gives me hope that, even after LE has conducted thorough searches, remains can be found in unexpected places by regular people going about their business. My heart goes out to Holly's family and the many Websleuthers on Holly's threads who are grieving.

It is so good that Holly was found, for all the reasons you stated, Lilibet...but always so sad when it hits her loved ones and all who cared that it is now absolute reality that she won't have another chance to walk this earth. :( Another angel to watch over others, but it's still not the happy ending we all want. But now onto justice for dear Holly...

***Love what you said about ordinary citizens going about their business often being the ones to discover lost ones and bring closure, Lilibet. So true.
