OR OR - Tammy Pitkin, 54, realtor from CA, was in Sutherlin, has 2 dogs, car found on dead-end road in Linn Co, 17 Oct 2022

  • #21
Why was she in Sutherlin, did she meet someone there?
Where is her cell phone & purse?
Did she stay at a hotel? Was a suitcase found in her car?
Would she drive down an isolated logging road alone? Sounds more like a car dump to me.
All excellent questions. I'm just now seeing this thread and was wondering the same things.

I do not live in that area but have been on several Forest Service/logging roads in my state. They are generally quite desolate, with limited, if any, cell phone service.

IMO it seems odd that Tammy, a realtor from out of state, would be driving on one of these remote roads, especially if she was not from this area.

Perhaps I missed it, but was there any signs of a struggle near the vehicle, or any blood found? Fingerprints, etc? Was she a known hiker or backpacker?

The area where her car was found is primarily the Willamette National Forest

A local! Now I can barrage you with questions.

Mostly just wanted to know if it’s possible the car was actually found in Cascadia. Reason: the distance, and this map (attached). There’s a service road that dead ends at a park maintenance shop.

I see it’s also closed for the season, which may account for why the car was reported.

Another couple of questions to ask.

- Did Tammy had any known MH issues before she disappeared?
- Were there any notable issues in her relationship with her husband or other family members?

GuyFromCanada mentioned her vehicle earlier in the thread. I agree, it seems odd that if the vehicle had gas and was in operating condition that it would be left there, in such a remote area, by Tammy herself. However, it should be noted that in some other MP cases (ex: Lindsey Schobelock) the missing person drove themselves to a remote location, then walked away from the vehicle intentionally.

With the information we have at the moment it's difficult to determine whether Tammy drove to this location for some reason or whether another person (or persons) may have been involved. All of this is MOO.

Cascadia park is a likely spot to stop and walk the dogs. There is very little media coverage of this missing person and very little speculation on social media.

I think 2 scenarios are likely here: 1) she stopped somewhere, went for a walk and got injured/lost or 2) she met with foul-play somewhere else and her car was dumped on the remote road. It would be odd (to me) to take your dogs with you if you were contemplating self harm.

I agree, if Tammy had no known MH issues then it doesn't seem logical that she would take her dogs with her if she planned to drive to that location and do self harm. However, if MH issues could be involved here, which we do not know at this time, then IMO logical decision making may not come into play.

Are there any steep cliffs or high trails in the area near her vehicle where Tammy could have accidentally fell?

I'm still wondering what, if anything, LE discovered about her vehicle. Any signs of violence? Did the car have gas? Was it operational?

Why did it take so long for her to be reported missing?

A business broker, also a woman, is missing in the northwest. Can't remember enough to find a thread or MSM.

Dark hair, maybe brokered small air fleets? Idaho or Utah?

Car found, iirc, but no woman.

Are you thinking of Christine Blackburn?

I am a dog person to the nth degree. Have 8, work in rescue, live for my dogs. Were I planning self harm, I might consider taking them out with me. For several reasons. But we're all different. YMMV

Very strange how little info is being posted about this. <modsnip>

Not a big sense of urgency, or information being put out. Very puzzling, makes me wonder what's going on behind the scenes?

This just seems odd overall. I think my main question is why she was in Oregon, and if that has anything to do with her disappearance.

It would be telling to know the reason. Was it a business trip or personal? I don't think I've seen that mentioned?

Her Facebook posts are primarily business and animal shelter related, little to no personal posts. Log in or sign up to view

I wonder if Tammy was having a difficult time in life recently?

JMO but if the car had been found in the state park, the Sheriff would have specified that. If I recall, it was a hunter who found the car, and as far as I know hunting isn't permitted in the state parks.

editing to add: The park is 15 miles from Sweet Home and recently shifted from a state park to a county park. Forest Service roads are federal. Altogether, I think it's unlikely this is the area being referenced by the sheriff's dept. (~30 miles, Forest Service road per the report)

I was local in the Willamette Valley for 25 years. I spent almost the entire time driving all over the state for business. I would guess TP hopped in her car and just headed north on I-5 from Red Bluff. Maybe even just to clear her head. This makes the exact area where she was found likely not a factor in this case. The particular forest road just happened to be there when she felt like she needed a forest road.

I could totally see myself doing this. Now I’ll read the thread lol.

Sutherlin might be a gas tank full since Red Bluff.

Do we have an exact location for the find? The thing is, she could have just gone down that road to sleep for the night. In OR, if you look remotely homeless, the cops will move you along. There's nowhere to sleep in you don't have much money.

I visited about 5 years ago, and even while I was picnicking, cops were buzzing me. I guess to find out how I fit on the scruffy scale. It was true sometimes I slept in my car, and it was hard to find a spot along the I-5 corridor, because campgrounds were closed for the season. I didn't appreciate being harassed just because I was cooking scrambled eggs, blueberry pancakes, and bacon for breakfast at a public picnic table.Sheesh.

As for the dogs...she coulda let them out for a potty break, and they took off into the woods because they were fed up from being cooped up in the car non-stop from Red Bluff.
I see that SAR hasn't been able to find her, but she could have got quite deep into the woods trying to corral the dogs.
My feeling is she's there.

Sutherlin is 10 gallons of gas from Red Bluff, give or take.
