This was a case that really shook up Portland. Oh, what good Mommas won't do to protect their children.

Portland man sentenced to 25 years in home-invasion rape

"A Portland man who was convicted of entering a house and raping a 36-year-old woman while her children were in another room was sentenced in Multnomah County Circuit Court to 25 years in prison this morning.

The sentence carries no chance of parole.

Thomas Allen Wilcox, 23, pleaded no contest Jan. 25 to three counts of first-degree burglary, two counts of first-degree sodomy and one count each of first-degree rape, first-degree unlawful sexual penetration, first-degree sexual abuse and first-degree robbery.

Judge Michael J. McShane, who sentenced Wilcox, said his lengthy sentence was due to the "brutal nature" of the attack and that Wilcox is "not able to be in society."

Deputy District Attorney Brian Davidson had asked for a 29-year sentence and said that Wilcox "is as dangerous of a person as I've personally prosecuted........"

and

"Davidson said police think Wilcox was breaking into cars in Northeast Portland before he entered a home about 2 a.m. Aug. 4. Inside the victim was in bed asleep with her 6-year-old daughter and toddler son.

Wilcox entered the bedroom, wielding a knife, and threatened to sexually assault both the mother and her 6-year-old daughter. When he attempted to get into the bed, the woman took him into the living room so her kids wouldn't see what happened......."
