This is all I could find regarding anyone named "Tim Aamoth" with my resources. Hopefully it's the right person.

I tried to find out a little more information about the T. L. Aamoth who was in the navy cruise book.

According to the cruise book (which is a yearbook-style publication often produced by ships of the US Navy upon completion of a long deployment typically six months long or more) he was under the M division which is in engineering. The M division was normally responsible for the four engine rooms, four turbo generators and four air compressors. The division provided propulsion, compressed air and electrical power for the ship. They were refereed to as Machinist's mate (or MM) and broke down to different ratings depending on qualification. Enlistees are taught the fundamentals of this rating through on-the-job training or formal Navy schooling. Advanced technical and operational training is available in this rating during later stages of career development.

I know absolutely nothing about the military but depending on if this is the right Timothy, he would have had to lie about his age or have a parent/guardian consent for his enlistment. I'm not sure what the role of J/ROTC played in the Vietnam war but going off the yearbook date he would have qualified, and that would be one explanation for the yearbook gap.

I still haven't found any information on family..

Would a military career, or even military service, be open to someone who had a problem with his feet? In the first post in the thread it mentions, "Shortened tendons - toes curled upward". I'm guessing those are the tendons that run along the top of the toes, in which case would they have affected his ability to walk?

It sounded to me that he had what is known as hammer toe(s), which would disqualify him from joining but if he had a waiver from a doctor he still could be approved.

Depending on the severity of his condition it could have developed during service. I don't think it would have affected his ability to walk drastically.

By chance I saw a man yesterday who might well have had the same condition as Timothy. The whole front of his foot and shoe was bent upwards from the ball of his foot forwards so none of his toes touched the ground. As a result he seemed to have difficulty walking and balancing and was using a stick.

I haven't been able to find any online photos to illustrate the condition but I did find this one:

That image is of toe exercises, but if you imagine that the position of the toes was involuntary and the big toe also affected you get a general impression of what I saw.

This may be the findagrave listing for Timothy's father. He is listed as having two sons, which includes Tim L. Aamoth (b. 1948).

I haven't found anything about a sister (unless she passed very early on) just Arthur who lived in Texas during the 60's and 70's.

His mother, Rose Parkinson, died in 1979 but that indeed is his father.
I know he had cousins in the Eugene area on his fathers side.
