Other Cases: SIMILAR Side by Side Comparison

While she wasn't abducted, 12 year old Stephanie Crowe was stabbed to death in her bedroom by Richard Tuite. There were 3 adults in the home, her older brother and younger sister, and no one heard a thing.

OT but I wanted to add this to the thread. In Texas (my adopted state) we have the "Castle law" better known as the "make my day law" (after dirty harry movie). In that if someone comes into your home, you have the right to defend it with force to include deadly force. I have a story to share about my bestest GF and someone attempting to come in her door when she was home alone with her two young kids but I won't post it as not to get too off topic.

Anyway, if we can't protect our children from RSO through legislation then the legislators should give us the right to protect them any way we can, including deadly force.

SOT, did you hear they're about ready to charge someone w/ Chandra Levy's murder?

TX is my adopt a state as well :) LOVE IT HERE!!! I could shoot any ped that walked into my home and would be off scott free.

IL, my home state. A person was burgularized and he had a gun shot the bad guy with the gun and who do you think was in trouble? The home owner. Not to mention the bad guy came after them again! It was just some random guy too!!!

Yes, it is about time!!!!!!! Her poor family! What is eerie is CL was abducted/murdered while jogging, today they are going to charge someone and now another girl goes missing while jogging in Deerfield, IL - a few towns over from where I grew up!! There is already a thread on it.

I must be really cynical. I don't think the Ramsey, McCann or Aisenberg cases were abductions at all.

I do obviously believe kids are taken from their homes, but I can't think of a case where they were taken from the same room and left not a single clue. Nothing. No one saw a car, heard anything, has noticed anything odd about their SO relative who is overly interested in the case, no one has found her clothes or a trace of her.

Hi Impatientthreadhead! You are without a doubt, one of my favorite posters here.....and definitely one of the best sleuthers!!! But I just have to say....... Elizabeth Smart, Danielle Van Damm, Coral Rose, Jessica Lunsford, Polly Klass. Strangers DO come into homes and steal children with family members sleeping near by. Horrifying..... that is why I sleep with an alarm system, a 9mm in the dresser, and machete behind the bed; and NO, I am NOT paranoid - I am prepared! In fact, I do home invasions drills with my family, and it pays off. New Years Day, we had an episode where the security alarm went off. All of the children immediately went into "drill mode", and 911 was called while my husband and I 'waited' for the invaders to be seen....and shot.... It ended up being a VERY windy day that blew a rocking chair into a window and the alarm tripped. The drills paid off, however, because EVERYONE in my home KNEW what to do....and we were frightened; but not to the point of terror... we were ALL ready to deal with whatever 'came up the stairs'! Scary world - but I didn't start it.....

Not to spark a debate because that is not my intention. But I believe the Ramsey's are innocent. And that is why I REALLY do believe this is a game to SO's. FBI has profiled serial killers in the same way - a game - trophies - keeping something from the victims. Maybe for SO's getting a child out of a home is like a victory for them. Makes whatever is that makes them tick more intense.

Gosh, just re-reading some of these cases tonight. We REALLY need legislation to put SO's on an island with no tv, no electronics, only seeds to grow vegetables to survive.

I know what you mean. Im not convinced the Ramseys are innocent OR guilty. But for this discussion if it was an outside job, the killer was very bold and seemed quite familiar inside the family home.

As for the Aisenbergs... guilty IMHO. But it was one of those cases where Tampa PD (typical for them) blew it.

We had another girl taken from her house here and murdered by some pond scum named Willie Crane. He murdered her, chopped her up, and put her body in crab traps around Tampa Bay. She was never found.

Carla, just curious, what sealed it for you about the Aisenburgs being guilty?? I have seen the specials, read the evidence etc ec.. I would have def said guilty had those tapes not been fake. I always felt it was a person desperate to have a baby that stole the Aisenburgs, Sabrina. Maybe wishful thinking but that is my gut. Also, the parents have a room, gifts and everthing they buy for her each year waiting for her to come home. They showed all of this once during a special...IDK, couldn't see Casey Anthony buying Caylee gifts waiting for her knowing she would never come home.

I always wonder even in this Haleigh case, does someone snatch a child that thinks they would be a better parent??

Also wanted to add that Illinois has also blown SEVERAL high profile cases. So sad :(

Oh, how could I have forgotten the Riley Fox case?? OMG!!! Another example of a child taken from her home as she slept with a younger brother and father sleeping nearby. Geesh! The Truth really is stranger than Fiction!

Hi- I just want to add that our house was broken into by a person who broke into my car, got an extra key I kept in there and came into our house while we were sleeping. I don't live in a very large house, about 1500 sq feet. We had our bedroom window open, which is right above our front door and a fan on in our room. My 90 lb lab did not wake up and neither did my husband and child. Thank goodness he was sleeping with us at the time. The perp stole my wallet and some vicodin from my purse, so probably petty criminals, but it proved to me that someone can break into my house and we (dog included) would not wake up. If they wanted my son, they could have probably gone to his room and taken him as well. Now, I am still working on convincing my husband we need an alarm system and do not sleep worth a darn since my son is now in his own bed. I have a monitor in his room (he's almost 5) and I sleep with my door open and will never turn on the fan again.
I know this is long, but it just shows that you might not hear someone in your house, esp. if they do not have to break things to get in.
Scares the living daylights out of me. The Danielle Van Damm case really sent me over the edge- there were 4 other people in that house and a neighbor got in and took her. We can never be too prepared nor underestimate the level a SO will go to get what he/she wants. It is so sad that this is the world we live in now.

I forgot all about Willie Crane. I remember watching his trial. So sad they never found the poor little girl.

I remember the case with willie crane....they never found the little girl but they did convict him. That was sad. Mother brought him home from a bar. Kids are so vulnerable and if they dont have parents doing the right thing, they pay the price:(

Thanks for sharing your story. You actually sparked my memory. This happend at my parents house as well. I wasn't living there...long time moved out. However, my sister was in bed and my brothers room was next door. Someone climbed up onto the deck of the house, walked right in and was leaning right over her. She woke up, screamed, he ran and my brother came running in. Our dog who ALWAYS barks* ALWAYS *slept right through it. Actually, our dog has slept through any and all criminal activity including vandilism of xmas decorations etc etc.. go figure. I guess if she was a little kid and sleeping more sound she could have easily been snatched. We never found out who it was but the police canvassed the neighborhood all night long. Oh yes and this is a "safe" area.

Oh yes and not to make it more dramatic but my sisters ex boyfriend also broke in while everyone was sleeping, stole my moms purse off the table and went on a spending spree. This is several years later after the original incident. And my sister was living with me in the south at the time. You just never know!!! Nobody heard a thing and our attack dog slept right through it once again!!

1984 in Fairfield, CA. 3 year old Clark Handa was taken during the night from his bedroom in which 4 other family members were sleeping. His mother found an open window and her son missing the next morning. A ransom note was found, but no one ever called and Clark has never been seen again. Kinda reminds me of Trenton Duckett, except I can't find any real details. It's listed as a non-family abduction.

raeann, don't forget to add that they snuck in without making any noise and without leaving any evidence of themselves and most importantly, kidnapped Haleigh within 4 inches, excuse me, 4 feet from a sleeping Misty and little brother Jr. I would say all in all, quite a feat!:)

Gary Graham was in court Wednesday on six additional charges. He's already been ordered to stand trial on 38 other counts.

~snip~

A 15-year-old girl said a man grabbed her in September of 2002, took her from her bedroom and licked her chest.

~snip~

A 10-year-old Jenks girl testified that she woke up in her room on April 14th of 2005 to a man who put his hand over her mouth. She says he was wearing a glove, but, she bit his hand, there was no DNA in that case.

One victim was too young to testify. She was only 2 years old. Her parents said they woke up to their daughter crying, naked, covered in rain and grass on her bed. Her window was open and outside, her diaper and pajamas.

More on Gary Graham Jr. who was sentenced to 2 life terms w/o Parole with over 18 confirmed rapes in 3-4 years. Many done by sneaking into a home with people sleeping in the same room to abduct, rape, and then return the victims to their beds. http://74.125.47.132/search?q=cache...ven+2+life+sentences&cd=3&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us

I'm not sure what your point is. Is Gary Graham a suspect in Haleigh's disappearance? Or just that he snatched all these children from the same bedroom as their parents/babysitters without waking anyone up? Did he get his victim to open the door for him, like Crystal?

There is case after case where someone has come into a home and taken a child with other people in the room or in the next room sleeping. I can continue to list them all day long here.

Here are two more which happened within a couple of hours of Haleigh's home:
ORLANDO -- Orange County deputies revealed shocking new details in the attempted kidnapping of a 4-year-old girl Thursday.

A sex crimes investigator said Mauricio Reyes, 46, broke into the girl’s home through the sliding back door, grabbed the girl, bound her with duct tape and then took her to the garage.

Reyes then took a pair of her mother’s high-heeled shoes from a closet near the garage before locking the girl in the garage with him.

~snip~

Neighbors News 13 spoke with said he has a wife and children, but they rarely saw him, saying he normally would come home in the middle of the night.

~snip~

Back in 2007, authorities said Reyes did the same thing, except the girl was 8 years old. She screamed and her mother ran him off.

He also has a history of prowling and loitering. Authorities said he would masturbate in front of people’s windows.

Orange County investigators said a dark-haired man broke into a home in the Andover Cay subdivision in east Orange County early Thursday while the family inside was sleeping.

The girl's parents awoke about 4:30 a.m. when they heard her scream. The man had grabbed the child from her bed and taken her into another room. Her father chased the intruder, who escaped out a window.

Detectives said they think the break-in, which occurred through a window, was sexually motivated.

A 7-year-old boy was sleeping in another bedroom.

The last one doesn't seem to fit the scenario because other people in the house woke up.

How about stories about non-custodial mothers sneaking in and grabbing children from next to their sleeping stepmothers?

MO does not fit with Gary G. he LEFT his victims behind. There is some extensive analysis of this theory though on a few other threads.

Both of those men, Graham and Reyes targeted sleeping children in their beds then removed them without waking anyone. They spent time in the home during the crime. THIS is the point I was making, but returning them only shows further how easy it is for anyone to get away with taking a child without waking others. Posters say it can't happen and these are definite proof it can and does happen. Reynolds also took a sleeping child out of a home, IIRC. Another case within a two hour radius of Haleigh's house.

I shouldn't have to remind anyone of Jessica Lunsford's case. Now where did that happen again?! Oh, yes...Florida!
