Not sure if there is a Websleuths thread, but here is another case solve: After 31 years, Riverside Jane Doe (1991) is Identified.

We were able to assist the Riverside County District Attorney's Office in identifying a 1991 Jane Doe as 37-year-old Kathryn Coffey. An investigation into her death continues.

Cold case investigators met with Coffey’s sister in June and obtained DNA, confirming on Aug. 8 that the remains were Coffey’s and notifying her family about the identification.

Human remains were found on Jan. 22, 1991, at the base of a hill near Avenue 62 and Madison Street, according to a district attorney’s office news release. Bones were found and appeared to have been there for a “lengthy amount of time.”

The case went cold after the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department couldn’t find leads on the case, which was believed to be a suspicious death, authorities said.

Coffey was last known to be in the Indio area between 1989 and 1990, according to her family. Coffey graduated from Scripps College in the mid-1970s.

Anyone with information regarding Coffey or who has seen anything suspicious in Thermal in late January 1991 has been urged by the Riverside County Regional Cold Case Homicide Team to contact the team by calling (951) 955-2777.

Today's solve was made possible by Audiochuck, for which we are grateful. Unfortunately, Audiochuck can't fund every case and we could use everyone's help to enable us to help advance more cases to "solved".

No Websleuths thread that I could find. It’s getting harder to keep up with you guys and girls! :D No complaints though!!
A big thanks too to taking on cases that may fall short of people’s radars because they don’t have a ton of resources or a reconstruction

Great job. I suspect we'll see more examples. I distinctly remember from the identification press conference of this Doe earlier this year that law enforcement sounded very matter of factly confident that the murderer would be identified also. They must have had evidence of his forensics and sensed the same process could be applied.

I also remember other identification pressers in which David has been asked to stick around for an internal briefing the next day. I mentioned on Reddit and perhaps here that it can only mean that Othram will increasingly be used to identify offenders as well as the Doe.

It is a key initiative for us to tackle unknown and under-resourced cases. These are cases that otherwise vanish from view :(

We aim to assist on both!
