My first reaction is that her husband killed her... he took the trailer to an area where he was reasonably sure someone would steal it, left the keys in the ignition and went home. Does he claim she joined a cult? What a strange accusation!
In fact, it is a very strange accusation. There are many rumors circulating around this small town, one of them is that she cut up her body, put it in a barrel and threw it into the river next to her business. I definitely think he killed her, and her money was definitely the motive. Money and total control of the business. The truth is quite sad. Almost 30 years have passed and nothing indicates that she is alive. Her children even believe that he murdered her. I just hope they find her body so her children can have some kind of closure.

I live in this town. The husband drove my bus sometimes. I can't say much about what I think, but I believe you are in the right direction. Her husband passed away in 2012.
