Convicted murderer John Wayne Graves Jr. was back in court Friday to learn his fate and hear from the family of the woman he savagely killed.

Judge David Ashworth sentenced Graves on Friday to a mandatory sentence of life in prison, one week after he dispassionately declared Graves guilty of first-degree murder. Mandatory life sentences preclude any option for parole.
