Kensington strangling victims were easy prey for a killer

Mon, Dec. 20, 2010

The man preying on women in Kensington has chosen his victims well.

Addicted and swirling through the neighborhood's dangerous drug culture, where life and death happen in abandoned buildings and desolate alleys, the victims already existed on the edges of society.

None of the three women found dead since Nov. 3 lived in Kensington, meaning they were part of a transient population of outsiders with few ties to the area.

Thank you, Filly. I did NOT want to be the one to say it again. I have a reputation as always waving the SRA calendar around. I do not know your city but there sure seems to be some significance with starting on Halloween and then following up on 3's. Especially when you add in the posing. I wonder if there are little details that LE has held back which could be linked to different practices?

So, no clear details on a time of death for Casey?

Maybe nothing. Maybe something.

I am neither Catholic nor do I practice Santeria and thus am a bit confused. Is Saint Anthony and El Nino de Atocha one and the same? In the Catholic faith, Saint Anthony is a friend of children. El Nino de Atocha in Spain and Portugal seems similar but not exactly the same. Not sure where Santeria places him/them. I see a theme of him being a gatekeeper and a life saver to the poor and troubled.

http://www.7-angeles.com/orishas.html

"...Ellegua (Saint Anthony of Padua) - He is the owner of all crossroads (where all roads meet) and therefore has a strong influence on our destiny (he allows some things to get to you, and others not to). He is a fun Orishas, loves children and candy, can be tricky (loves a good joke and playing jokes) and his colors are red/black..."

http://www.santeriareligion101.com/

"...."El Nino de Atocha" or Saint Anthony~The colors associated to this orisha or spiritual figure are Black and Red and the number associated to him is the number three...."

http://rosieysus21divisiones.blogspot.com/2008/05/el-dia-de-todos-los-santos-del-cielo.html

"....El Nino de Atocha (The Little Boy of Atocha) is a particular vision of Jesus Christ as a young boy wearing a pilgrim's cloak and hat of 16th century style. He carries a basket of food, a staff, a water-gourd, and a sheaf of wheat. He is usually shown sitting in a chair, often with matched vases of flowers on either side of him. His popularity is greatest in Spain and the Central and South American countries once conquered and colonized by Spain. Some people in Santeria consider him to be a symbol of the Orisha Ellegua, one of the Seven African Powers.
The story of El Nino de Atocha is this:

When the Moors conquered the town of Atocha, Spain, in the 1400s they imprisoned the Christians and provided them with no food. The people would have starved to death but for a little boy dressed as a pilgrim who appeared at the jail every day with a basket of food, some grain for bread, and a gourd full of water. When the Moors were expelled, the Christians were released, and it was believed that the miraculous little boy was none other than the infant Jesus.

In later years El Nino de Atocha appeared again in the vicinity of Atocha, where he performed other miracles, such as staving off a rape in progress.

Today he is revered as the special patron for those who are in prison, living under regimes of political torture, those in trouble with the I.N.S., victims of crimes including rape and abduction, those facing a court case, and those who, by virtue of circumstances, require help from outside for the opening of their way.

According to this article:

http://thetimes-tribune.com/news/ph...-victim-had-nepa-ties-1.1079538#axzz18hTML1SM

Casey's body was found on Wednesday, Dec. 15th at around 5 pm. I can't find anything about how long the coroner estimated she'd been dead.

Here's what confuses me. The article above says that she was discovered dead and posed on Wed. afternoon around 5 pm. Here's another article which states that she was killed on Wed. afternoon and that autopsy reports were already in by a Thurs. presser. That's really quick, isn't it? Also I see no mention that the coroner set her estimated time or date of death:

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2010/12/17/strangled-philadelphia-woman-rd-serial-strangler-victim/

"....Casey Mahoney, 27, of East Stroudsburg, Pa., was the victim of a manual strangulation on Wednesday afternoon on East Tusculum Street, MyFoxPhilly.com reports. Police Deputy Commissioner William Blackburn announced the results of Mahoney's autopsy at a news conference Thursday.

Bless her heart. She almost made it out.

At the end of this video the reporter mentions the witness who found the body. That person had been to the same lot 24 hours earlier and it was not there. The reporter says this indicates the body was there a short time.

Got it, I think. Saint Anthony and El Nino de Atocha are both corresponding patron saints of Papa Legba, the gatekeeper (BTW, his day of the week is Monday):

http://www.squidoo.com/papalegba

"...One way in which African slaves could continue to practice their traditional religions was by shrouding them in elements of Catholicism. Thus, there are corresponding saints for each of the major deities or Seven African Powers. The Seven African Powers is largely a Hoodoo term that is used by practitioners of Santeria, New Orleans Voodoo, Candomble, and other religions. In Spanish, they are referred to as Las Sietes Potencias.

Following is a list of Legba's corresponding saints.

Eleggua / Elegua/ Legba: Messenger, Opener of the Way, Trickster:

* Saint Simon Peter

* San Martin (Caballero)

* Saint Anthony (of Padua)

* El Nino de Atocha

* St. Lazarus

* Saint Expedite

* Saint Michael Archangel

I know that the man who assaulted the women who lived was said to be soft-spoken. Has there been any mention of an accent or cadence to his voice?

Apparently this guy looked like the wanted poster and video, so of course instead of calling police they posted his name and address on facebook, he called the police when a crowd started forming outside his house.

Apparentlyhttp://philadelphia.cbslocal.com/2010/12/21/man-on-facebook-is-not-the-%e2%80%98kensington-strangler%e2%80%99/

They cleared him pretty quickly, I wonder if that means they have other strong leads.

T, Honestly I don't think they get checks anymore. I think it goes right on to their card. The one my mom keeps screaming she wants when she's just about eating and sees a person with a welfare card in front of her ordering all kinds of goodies. That would be food stamps, but they ask them "Stamps or cash"?

If it's 3's well we have three days to figure that out.

JJ knows more about the system though. My friends DD gets welfare. I'll ask her. Plus he's attacked the one woman at night. I doubt anything down there isopen at 2:00AM where he could get his welfare loot. Ya never know though.

Then again like JJ said he may be luring the women with cash!!!!!!!!! That's more like it. He'd have cash on those days.

oh so maybe he the one getting money:banghead:That more like it...I was confuse. I don't know much about about state money...the first Tuesday is ssi day and you do not go to walmart. and I always seen than used a card.

and wic slips I shame that I also behind them wonder how they get junk food:banghead:

I sure hope nothing goes down on 23. but I am nervous about that date.

Funny thing! I remember today years ago and I mean years ago I dated a guy from Kensington area.

I also want to chime in that Philly is wonder city we always went shopping there and the wonderful museums, the best cheesesteaks and scrapper in the world.

I have family there. this kind stuff happen in all big city. In my younger days I lived in Overbrook area it was very nice back than.

Going off your post to another poster.

No Sunday checks or EFT's when I was there.

They would not all come out at the same time; they are based the recipient's record number, a seven digit number with a 2 digit county code in front.

If the record number ends in 1, benefit's would be received on 12/1 (Wed.) A 2, on 12/2. A 3, on 12/3 (Fri.). A 4, not until Monday, 12/6. They are bimonthly, so I'm not sure when the cycle restarts, but I'd guess early, because of the holidays.

The three dead woman fit the cycle; they were confirmed to be her. What was the date of the attack on the survivor?

Oct 31 Sun... A women claims she was sexually assaulted and choked

also Nov 14 Sunday... Woman claims she was raped and chocked ad rob $283.
this was one on Flora st

Nov 28 Sun....woman claims she was dragged into a vacant lot on Buckius st
by man wih box cutter.

Could it also be possable that the guy might be getting unemployment benfits:waitasec: Here they are bi monthly.

PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia city officials want the public's tips to help find a man who has killed two women and possibly a third, but they're discouraging anyone from taking justice into their own hands.
....................
A $30,000 reward is now being offered for the arrest and conviction of this individual, with $25,000 coming from the city and $5,000 from the Citizens Crime Commission, the mayor said.

Additionally, the Fraternal Order of Police is offering $5,000 and City Councilman Frank DiCicco is putting up $2,000 just for an arrest of the attacker.

I didn't think of it, but you could be right. They, the attacks, look bimonthly, but not two weeks apart and not on a specific day.

The Flora Street attack is the one well outside of Kensington. It's in Francisville/Brewerytown, about half a block north of Girard. Neither of those two attacks fit the MO completely.

Police Deem Killer A 'Serial Predator'
DNA Returns As A Match In Kensington

Just in the the Fox 29 Newsroom:

Philadelphia police and investigators have just wrapped up a news conference where they announced that DNA from the 3rd strangulation victim in Kensington has returned a match to the other two strangulation victims.

Last week, 27 year-old Casey Mahoney was found strangled in a vacant lot on Front & Tusculum Street. She is now the third victim of the so-called 'Kensington Strangler' . The other victims, Nicole Piacentini and Elaine Goldberg were also found strangled and beaten in early November.

It depends if he's targeting prostitutes just in Kensington or generally.

If generally, since I'm one of the resident experts on hookers in Phila, (Well, I did exchange e-mails with the DC Madam. Actually a nice lady.) :), these are the areas I'd guess.:

About a 2 block radius around Broad and Poplar; that's where the Flora Street attack was.

Someplace along the rail line (Sedgley and Glenwood) west of Front and east of 12th. (That's fairly close to the current attacks.)

Elmwood in Southwest from 60th to 70th Streets.

The way LE is talking, it looks like they think he'll stay in Kensington.

I'm worried about the Flora Street attack. It could be the strangler or it could be a robbery by someone else.
