MT. AIRY, PHILADELPHIA — An 18-year-old woman is missing and Philadelphia Police are asking for help locating her.

According to police, Arwen VanDenbergh, 18, was last seen on Monday, June 26 on the 200 block of West Sharpnack Street in West Mt. Airy.

She is 5 feet 3 inches tall, weighs 120 pounds, has a thin build, green eyes, and brown hair.

She was last seen wearing a crop top and black shorts.

Police said VanDenbergh could be in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

Anyone with any information on VanDenbergh's whereabouts is asked to please contact the Northwest Detective Division at 215-686-3353 or 911.

I couldn't help but note Arwen still lists her address in Philadelphia though the police likely just took that off her driver's license.

Unfortunately, we don't have any verification of the father's statement about her being trafficked He may simply not know WS requires verification before information that can't be supported by LE or MSM info can be used here without being considered rumor. So until such time as he becomes verified as a family member or we have other information we'll have to look at it as rumor.

Trying to think how this would work. If she is reported missing wouldn't she be "in the system" in a way that should notify when she is pulled over and her ID is checked? At that point wouldn't Virginia at least call Pennsylvania and tell them to stop looking since she is okay. I get that she is an adult so certainly they don't need to take any further steps but it seems like if the process is working on both ends then at least a message would have gone back to her family and Pennsylvania would have closed the case/issue. My understanding is that a police officer can determine if a person pulled over is on a missing persons list by checking the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database. NCIC is a central database of criminal justice information, which includes information on missing persons and will automatically alert an officer if he or she runs a driver's license or license plate on a traffic stop and that person is listed in NCIC.

However, not all missing persons are entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database. NCIC entries are primarily for missing persons who meet specific criteria, such as those who are under 21, have a disability, are endangered, are victims of a catastrophe, or are missing under involuntary circumstances (like abduction). While law enforcement agencies are required to enter missing persons under 21 into NCIC, there isn't a similar mandate for adults. But Since Arwen was under 21 when she was reported missing, if I understand the process interfaces correctly, it would have been required for LE to enter the information into NCIC when she was formally reported missing as that is mandated as part of Suzanne's Law and that should have flagged something when the officer ran her driver's license for the ticket in 2024.

Just my understanding - if anyone has better information please let me know.

Unfortunately cases involving young adults missing « voluntarily » (I underline the hyphens) do not get sufficient attention. IMO this seems to be the case here. Just the mere fact that there isn’t anything aside that information from 2023 is strange.
What I do not get, is why she does not contact her family if she is OK. She has the right to chose her life and a phone call to;reassure her parents wouldn’t change anything for her but would make a huge difference for her loved ones. Of course we do not know the circumstances etc, but the fact she does not contact anyone who loves and cares for her, could well mean she was groomed and brainwashed, or that she simply cannot despite wanting to.

I went ahead and emailed the suggested address so I can be verified. All information I have given thus far is truthful and all her mother and I want to know is that she is safe, not being harmed and that she knows she can come home anytime she wants. The Bridgeport police have been of no help whatsoever.
