GUILTY PA - Carlesha Freeland-Gaither, 22, Germantown, 2 November 2014 - #2

Wow, thank you for that. The father wishes the victims a speedy recovery and that they can hopefully forgive his son and move on with their lives?! The first victim is STILL recovering in the hospital, after he hit her over the head with a shovel, raped her and doused her with gasoline, and set her clothes on fire. I just can't comprehend. So thankful Carlesha has been returned, safely and I hope that this attack was less brutal than the first.

Captain Crawley says deputies noticed the car linked to the suspect in the abduction of a 22-year-old Philadelphia woman looked surprisingly similar to the vehicle they were looking for in the Charles City case. They used the car's GPS device to track his exact location in Baltimore. Police successfully made an arrest and recovered that Pennsylvania victim.

From your link. So that is how they caught Barnes? I'm confused, how did they ID his car?

Don't forget the ex-wife that he bruatlized and raped for 24 hours, holding her hostage in her home. Oh, and she had a "restraining order". I'm sorry, but really? That rarely stops those who are hell-bent on terror.

Wow, who knew that a dealership could do that, WOW!!!
I work for a repo company. They install those GPS devices on some units to help recover it if the buyer decides to not pay or if it gets stolen. Most of the time the GPS ends up not working or the debtor removes them. Some units also have a kill switch that the dealer can access remotely to shut the engine down and keep it from being started.

They were able to ID him from his pictures/videos and get a name. From getting a name, they found out that he had purchased a car that had a GPS. They tracked the GPS and found him.

This article states that a member of his family called in the tip to the Philadelphia police after they recognized his car from the Philadelphia surveillance video. Which also makes me think that maybe it was a family member who posted those two "odd man out" posts on his Facebook site. Just a hunch on my part.

"Then on Nov. 2, Freeland-Gaither was seen on video being kidnapped in Philadelphia. Law enforcement sources tell CBS 6 that family phoned in a tip that the car shown in the Philadelphia surveillance video belonged to Barnes."

Do the people know the cars have the GPS on it? Based on his actions over the years and last few days, he clearly didn't care or think he would get caught. I guess it wouldn't surprise me if he knew it had a GPS tracker. Thoughts?

His PBPP# / Parole Board Number is 140DY, but according to the PA DOC, his sentence was completed 11/30/13 w/ a notation stating his Parole Status is not Applicable. I'm not sure why there's a discrepancy there. GS0248 was his PA Inmate #. His SID is 331-33-77-4. FBI : 752982XA7. I'll leave out his SSN.

I am so glad that every now and then we see a family member who does the right thing. It must be hard to know your family member will never see you again if you make the call, but it is the right thing to do, so you do it. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, family member. You show kindness and compassion that he is certainly lacking.

You learn something new with every case. This GPS info is crazy. I'm guessing they only do this at certain dealerships and for high risk (credit issue) customers. I can't imagine that every car purchase/lien would have GPS tracking. I hope.

Why didn't the Charles City County LE know about that? They've had a warrant out on him for a month.

Great question!
Sorry if this was asked, but why was he roaming the streets after the charges from a month ago? Was it because they never found him after the girl ran away from him?

The one article linked above stated that they didn't get the DNA match on Barnes until October 28th. The 16 year old disappeared on Oct 1st and turned up, naked and burnt, on Oct 3rd at a business some two miles away. I'm not sure if she knew where she had run from. Just like Carletha, he kept her at a residence for days. The young Richmond girl managed to escape. Otherwise, it seems, he would have killed her.

I don't know. Maybe they don't have the budget to take on an involved/difficult manhunt, but that was a very serious crime by an obviously dangerous multiple offender.

Ok. That makes sense. The DNA came back 10/28 and he takes Carlesha 11/2. So, there was a five day window in between. Five days may seem like a long time, but it really isn't when you are trying to find someone. So, I know understand why they didn't get him. Not to mention, he has several addresses. If only, they tracked the GPS. If only.

That is so frightening to think she was selected at random. One thing is for sure he didn't expect her to fight him like she did!!! The way she fought immediately really does make me think he was a stranger to her. I believe LE will let the public know for sure if this was random or she was targeted once they find out. It's terrifying either way because we actually witnessed her horrific kidnapping with our own eyes. This has traumatized the public in a way also. Very scary to think these thugs are going around abducting women at random!!!

The Charles City charges stem from an alleged rape of a 16-year-old girl Oct. 3 at Barnes’ home, Charles City sheriff’s Capt. Jayson Crawley said.

The victim is hospitalized with chemical burns , Crawley said. Investigators believe the girl’s attacker had planned to set her on fire, but she escaped.

So this 16 yr old girl managed to escape this man on Oct 3rd and went to police so why wasnt he in jail on those charges? Those are all serious charges. Why was he free to go kidnap another girl a month later?? I do not understand this and it makes me furious!! He should of been in jail period! It's a miracle that young 16yr old even reported what happened to police after escaping. A lot of girls would of been too scared of him and not reported it. What good did it do though cause he wasn't in jail and was free to abduct another girl a month later!!!
