That is so frightening to think she was selected at random. One thing is for sure he didn't expect her to fight him like she did!!! The way she fought immediately really does make me think he was a stranger to her. I believe LE will let the public know for sure if this was random or she was targeted once they find out. It's terrifying either way because we actually witnessed her horrific kidnapping with our own eyes. This has traumatized the public in a way also. Very scary to think these thugs are going around abducting women at random!!!

The one article linked above stated that they didn't get the DNA match on Barnes until October 28th. The 16 year old disappeared on Oct 1st and turned up, naked and burnt, on Oct 3rd at a business some two miles away. I'm not sure if she knew where she had run from. Just like Carletha, he kept her at a residence for days. The young Richmond girl managed to escape. Otherwise, it seems, he would have killed her.

Why were they waiting on DNA? Couldnt the girl identify him and tell police happened? They could wait on DNA with him behind bars.
Hmm must be missing something and more to this story cause it don't make sense to me at all. I guess I now want to know if someone dropped the ball or what. Why wasn't this guy behind bars?

There was that qoute by police that said something about this is just what he does and there isn't any making sense out of it. My first thought who tipped him off to Carlesha? Who owed money to this dude would be a good place to start. I will have to find the qoute. I agree though I don't think it was random but I do believe he was a stranger to Carlesha.

Yes, I agree. I do think he was a stranger to Carlesha but I think that there is something else in play here. It was so obvious to me that he was targeting her and her alone. And if you read his Facebook posts, he's all about revenge, punishment for "snitches" etc. It will be interesting to find out just what caused him to take her. I'm just so thankful that he didn't kill her.

It's interesting didn't Carlesha's family suggest some of her "friends" may of set her up to be robbed???
Seemed to not make sense at the time but I can see it making sense now. I believe her family had more info then us at the time and had reason to believe what they did. Maybe both LE and family are right. He was a stranger to Carlesha but she was targeted.

Why didn't the Charles City County LE know about that? They've had a warrant out on him for a month.

They likely don't have resources to look into all that but you better believe the FBI was all over it!!! They were hunting him down.

After reading all this, why wasn't this guy already in jail??? Amazing how he was found not guilty of several of the charges surrounding this incident with his estranged wife. (Why hasn't she divorced his a$$ yet?) IMO, JMO.

Crawley told The Times that Barnes may have run to Philadelphia last week after police began to suspect him in the Virginia attack. A DNA test led police to search Barnes' residence in Virginia on Oct. 29, Crawley said, and Barnes disappeared shortly after.

Barnes is originally from Philadelphia and moved to Virginia at a young age, according to Crawley, who said he’d attended high school with the suspect.

“In school, I remember him being a normal quiet guy, nothing out of the ordinary attracting any attention to him," Crawley said. "Just a quiet, reserved guy.”

Here's some info for whomever wants to work with it. On 6/30/06 he was committed to the PA DOC w/ the controlling defense: PA Cc2702 Aggravated Assault (general). I don't want to "back-door" the contents of the criminal complaint and affidavit, so I will try to provide when I can do it thru the appropriate means. The committing county was Philadelphia. He was sentenced 4-8y. He was released 11/30/13. Serving his max 8 years while receiving credit for the time he served in County. He served those 8 consecutive years in the PA DOC. His DOB is 1/28/77. His committed name was DELVIN BARNES. When committed (6/30/06), his Legal Address was: 5440 Haupts Lane. Charles City, VA. 23030. The photo you see of him w/ the brown collared shirt and white undershirt are standard issue PA DOC. That particular photo was taken 11/27/13. It is standard procedure when an inmate is maxing out or paroling out.

That is all I can provide at this time. I don't believe any other info I have, at this time, is available for public dissemination.

Do you have any info or idea why this man was not in jail over the Oct 3rd charges?

With all the crimes he had committed, and already being wanted by the police in the Oct. 1 attack, he really acted like he had nothing to lose when he kidnapped Carlesha, used her ATM card and had his mug caught on several cameras. That smirk he had in the ATM picture says it all, he didn't care nor did it seem he was worried about being caught. *smh*

They were able to ID him from his pictures/videos and get a name. From getting a name, they found out that he had purchased a car that had a GPS. They tracked the GPS and found him.

You learn something new with every case. This GPS info is crazy. I'm guessing they only do this at certain dealerships and for high risk (credit issue) customers. I can't imagine that every car purchase/lien would have GPS tracking. I hope.

I know they had something to be able to tell the car was a 2002 ,because the video would never have shown the exact year, sometimes you have to open the door to find out the year because they are the exact same for years. Maybe minor changes but nothing one could spot in that video. Wow..Impressive.

When I view it I can't see a post from that date, but there is one from 2nd Oct @ 3:48am. Am I just seeing a different date because I am in UK and therefore it was already 2nd here when he posted it? So, so amazing!

Someday down the road Carlesha needs to tape one of those segments Dr Phil, Oprah (in the past) CNN, GMA, even Dateline / 48 Hours / 20/20, etc., love to do about how to survive a kidnapping, etc.

They all talk and demonstrate in theory, but she had to do it! And as a very small young woman also!

The resisting, screaming, dropping to the ground, doing everything possible not to let him get her in the car. And though she couldn't ultimately keep him from taking her, to then pull off what many big men couldn't do once, let alone twice (!) in kicking the windows out!

And while it was likely unintentional, even her glasses and phone being left would have been a trail if someone hadn't seen it and the cameras didn't capture the whole thing (which she would not have had any idea actually happened) so at least someone would have known something happened to someone.

I'm not sure she could have done much else.

Combine it with this being one of the few times we essentially have a start to finish abduction all on video it really is something everyone can learn from!

So grateful God spared her life and that her mom is getting her (clearly) beloved Carlesha home!

Does anyone know any more details about the 16 year old in October? How long he kept her?

Yes - thank you! Seems like he set this up after leaving prison perhaps, started off nice and then turned very nasty.
