Makes sense.

I don't know where the "muslim" garb comes from on the mother - she's clearly not a muslim from birth. Maybe the dad is a traditional muslim? The child is not dressed as a muslim girl.

It *is* possible for people to convert to religions they were not born into...

From Nailia's mom -

"I don't think that my child knew her. I think that my child thought that she was a familiar person because she was Muslim," Rashid said.

That makes sense. The mother (and family, I guess) is associated with the muslim community.

I hate to keep repeating this, but why wasn't the child dressed that way? Maybe in some communities, the child gets to "choose" - but at our elementary school, muslim girls wear muslim garb - to the point that it makes P.E. difficult because of their dresses and head coverings.

This is an odd story, with a lot of twists. The mother doesn't appear to be a muslim from birth, and her daughter is not dressed in muslim garb. But the mother is.

I don't think this is as it's being reported. I don't know what the story is, but I don't think a stranger muslim woman named "Tiffany" (REALLY????) appeared at the school and stole this child.

Mostof my Muslim acqauintances young children do not wear hijab. The girls are not expected to wear hijab until puberty though some may opt to start sooner based on family and community.

I am just jumping off your post...

could this person be Nailia's grandmother? (Maybe from dad's side?)

I have read recently of two grandmas who took their grandchildren from school... Even though they were NOT allowed due to family conflicts...

both children were found safe and sound... One right at grandma's house!

Being possibly pregnant doesn't feed much into this theory... But she may be a young grandma... It has happened many times before!

Just some thoughts...

This news reports said the abductor was a young woman in her 20s so probably not a grandmother. I think age was estimated by the people in the office she chatted with.

I live in a community with a LOT of muslims. I'm surprised here that there is no mention of a dad. This is just foreign to me. In my world, muslim families have devoted dads, and the daughters wear muslim clothing to school. And they are traditional muslims, from birth.

Live and learn, obviously. Different cultures are different. This one's got my hinky meter on full tilt because it's not at all what I've seen. At all.

This adductor gave le a lot of clues to work with. She is on video and she had a conversation with people in the office as well ad the teacher. Also, she arrived and departed at a time when parents would be around so someone may have seen what she drove.
Hopefully Naillia will be found very soon.

Not even a mention of Dad? It is strange, IMO.

I and many agree. no stranger who is of muslim descent or religion name Tiffany appeared at school and stole this child.

There is obviously more to this story.

I wonder if there is a list of verified experts here at WS who would have knowledge based in religions or theology that may be helpful?

I'm curious, what indicates that the mother is not a muslim from birth? Thanks!

Beautiful little girl. Like some of you, I wish we knew more about any custody issues in the family. I would think her mom would have mentioned something in her interiew if that was possible, but where is her dad? If this woman is pregnant maybe she is having problems with the baby. I pray if that is the case she just wants a child to care for and love and will keep her safe & return her to the family who loves her.

I wonder if the Tiffany mom knows really has a true (classes/school) alibi!

Just a thought...

We try not to verify religious "experts". Even if someone states that they understand a religion completely, even a pastor, imam, etc., that doesn't mean that everyone will agree with them. Religious things are soooo open to interpretation. It is bound to cause disagreement and uprising amongst people.

Let us PLEASE LEAVE the RELIGION discussion OUT OF THIS as much as possible. Obviously it can be discussed as the media reports it, as far as what they are wearing, etc. But that's as far as it needs to go at this point. There is no need to discuss the family's religion. And any further posts dissecting why or why not any Muslim garb or traditions or what have you is appropriate or correct of the family will be deleted. We don't need religious tension. We need Nailla to be found. (Not directed at you, tlcya, just a general announcement.)

FWIW - a friend in Pittsburgh, PA (about 5 hours from Philadelphia) just e-mailed me that she received an Amber Alert on her cell phone re: this child somewhere around 8:30 - 9:00 p.m. EST this evening.

I am hoping LE will release a description of the abductor, approximate height and age and clarify if she appeared to be truly 8 months pregnant, I've heard pregnant of the news but nothing about other bolo info

perhaps dad works elsewhere or travels. It is odd that there has been no presence made by him and no one in the press has seemed to question it.

The reporter who interviewed mom said the parents (plural) had been notified so I must assume dad is still living.

Very odd.

I worked in the office of an elementary school for several years. It really astounds me that nobody in that office realized this was NOT Nailla's mother.

The Kinder parents are in the office MANY times when a child starts school. We knew every single 'primary' caretaker by sight AND NAME. There is no way a woman with the wrong first name, claiming to be 8 months pregnant, should have been able to fool that office staff.

FIRST OFF--you are supposed to pull the student's official 'authorized to release' card and check the DO NOT RELEASE TO list and check their ID to make sure it is authorized.

Obviously that was NOT done.

Also, the kinder classes are almost always right near the offices. So we always has a clear view of parents coming and going. Kinder parents tend to visit the classroom area once or twice a week at drop off or pick up. Unlike the older kids, the kinders usually want the parents to volunteer in class or come see their projects. So it surprizes me that this imposter felt comfortable enough making small talk in the office. How would she know that the staff hadn't recently talked with the real mom, and known she was not named Tiffany and NOT 8 months pregnant?

I really doubt that someone who went through that much work to take her would use the wrong name. I think she may have said Latifah, but it was understood to be Tiffany because it's a more familiar name. Have they said if they had video of the woman entering the school too, or just after being in the office? I don't remember reading/hearing anything about it, but I could have just missed it. TIA
