Can someone confirm for me if the car which was supposedly involved after the woman took Niilya was a false lead? I know that I read at first that they were on video getting in to a car and that the police were able to determine who owned the car. Now all I read is that the woman walked the girl to a home in the neighborhood. So, the car is not involved, right or no?

So then are you thinking the substitute teacher (who would not know this person was not a parent) and the fact that N had just returned to school that day after being home ill Thursday and Friday before is just a coincidence that was very convenient for the abductor? Certainly possible but those two things added up with the Tiffany, the knowledge of which classroom, etc. really concerns me.

Okay, so we know Tiffany is on the approved list right? Pretty sure I read an article linked upthread a ways that said that, someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Wonder how often Tiffany has picked up N at school and if she ever had to go pick her up ill unexpectedly because mom couldn't get off work. Further wonder if in that sort of situation she may have had a casual friend with her when she did so.

Food for Cluc, I will hand it to you.

but the darn sub and other stuff still isn't sitting right with me.

Maybe the abductor or another perp (i.e. the male suspect) is a substitute teacher for the district and knew the teacher had called in sick and jumped on the opportunity? IDK

I don't believe the police would scare parents like that just to get people to open their doors.

I'm cynical because I was born and raised here. I don't think they mean to "scare" parents, and they are already frightened, but we have some bad *** criminals here who are staying with family or friends and don't want to be found.

As far as "scare" it was obvious when some of the parents spoke on TV that they were worried and would now have to walk their kids to school for at least the next three days. This is life for some people. I watch it every single day. Second graders walking all alone up to school. Nobody worries. This poor child was abducted and sure enough there these kids around here were off to school all alone. We used to have crossing guards every two blocks or so. Not anymore. So you have kids and I mean little kids just moseying along all alone.

I think that may have come from me. When I did a Google search that phrase came up on the search page but it was related to another story.

Me either.

Yes, warrants will be needed for people who already jave warrants to open their door.

My personal opinion- if they have warrants and they don't open the door or if they pretend they are not home, bust it down and look for the girls. No time to mess with that kind of nonsense when cops know that somewhere in that immediate vicinity, there is a home where this child was held half naked under a bed. Not to mention a female teen who probably risked her own well being to save Niilya and the "other girls"!:furious:

MOO

As a teacher at a nearby school in Philly, I might be able to she'd a little light on this. An earlier article- I can't find the link now- quoted another parent as saying that this was the third substitute teacher of the year. The teacher turnover rate is high, particularly in the rougher neighborhoods. It is more difficult to fill an empty position right now because there is a hiring freeze in the district. So this often results in a string of long-
term subs, which is definitely a possibility in this case. So while I agree the abductor likely knew the child would be back in school, the fact that there was a sub is probably just circumstance.

To answer a couple previous questions: this is not a charter school nor may you attend any school you wish without legal reasons or a false address. Perhaps she used her grandparents' address though to be frank you'd be hard-pressed to think of a significantly worse school in South Philly than the one she attended.

Additionally, I am unfortunately not one iota surprised this monster was able to access a classroom without permission.

Exactly. Could someone come into your school and say they're going to take a kindergartner to breakfast.

Props to you. Teaching IMO is the most important job next to parenting.

Hoping things don't get worse with all these schools they are trying to close.

I have had multiple parents enter my classroom, including one known to be dangerous without permission and without the knowledge of the office staff before.

I currently work at a school that does have some measure of security but yes, it could absolutely happen as understaffed as our schools often are. But you can be sure the child would not leave my classroom without my speaking directly to an administrator, checking the pick up list, and Id. In fact I am not so popular amongst a few families because I do not allow a child to get picked up by a random cousin or aunt whom I have never met.

And yes, parents take their children of school all the time for the most unbelievable reasons. I have heard it all. We can't legally tell a parent that they cannot get their child. We instead document every such instance carefully and after a certain number of incidents we can legally report the family to truancy
Court and DHS.

Thanks for the props and the welcome!

Thank you, I had no idea the turnover rate. That does put a different odds ratio to my earlier speculation.

Glad to see you come from lurkdome.
