The alleged bomb:

An obvious prop. If they suspected it was real they would have brought in the bomb squad to neutralize it or blow it up. The last thing they would do is pick it up by hand.

Almost looks like a plastic prescription pill bottle. Is the wound wire at the bottom just to add weight making it easier to throw?

It's a home made hand grenade and it looks deadly to me. The fuse on top is real and looks like timed fuse we used in the military years ago. Looks like about 6 seconds of time from when the device was lit to when it exploded.

While I've seen allot of trip wire devices I can't see if there's a secondary trip detonator under the wire. I also can't see whats inside the device. I can see the fuse and bolts attached to the device which would be lethal to anyone near if it exploded. I believe it to be real and shows a lot of planning went into what this person has intended to do.

It's very possible this man has an underground hidey hole or two in that area.

In the press conference they said that would be the trip wire. It wasn't unwound/ extended, so I guess wound up like that for "storage"

Ok, gotcha. So it could be used as a fuse-lit, thrown "grenade" or timer/remote detonated as a bomb. Clever boy...

I apologize if this has been mentioned already, but I came across some interesting points (gleaned from another forum) on Eric's father, who has remained fairly quiet throughout this ordeal. His father, a retired Army Major is Dr. Eugene Michael Frein, Ph.D. with a doctorate in "Biomedical Sciences" from Rutgers University. It was also noted that he was stationed at Fort Detrick.

"Fort Detrick is a United States Army Medical Command installation located in Frederick, Maryland. Historically, Fort Detrick was the center of the US biological weapons program from 1943 to 1969." Wikipedia

Also, it has been reported that Eric's sister-in-law recently left Sanofi Pasteur, the pharmaceutical giant in the Poconos responsible for the H1N1 vaccine, amongst many others. I believe his brother Michael currently works there. Considering his father's credentials, I wouldn't be surprised if he worked/works there too.

FWIW

I don't think timer/ remote detonated, but fuse-lit or set up so it could be tripped via the wire. Unless that's what you meant by remote detonated? I'm not very familiar with these things but it didn't sound like it had some kind of timing device (other than length of the wick) nor did it have a remote of another sort, just the trip wire and the fuse.

Yes, I just meant remote via current through the wire, not wireless.

Here's a link to a YouTube account that I believe to be Eric Frein's https://www.youtube.com/user/Vucko0064

One of the account user's comments was specifically related to the .308 round.

"The reason these rounds, especially the .308, had a bit of a rough time penetrating is because bullets wobble a little after they leave the muzzle. Air resistance eventually forces the bullet to fly true. I know .308 has a wobble for ~200yrds, not sure about the others. This means that at such a close range .308 is more likely to yaw and break up..."

The article here says "Frein does not seem to have a social media profile under his name or an Eastern Wolves handle he used, Vucko."

I posted it on a "Help Find" Frein FB page 10 or 12 days ago, but it didn't receive much attention. It's not going to help find him, but I was somewhat surprised by the absence of any "anti"- establishment, authority, police, etc videos or comments, in light of his portrayal by PSP.

At least no one was hurt.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Police descended near the Hilton Garden Inn in Bloomfield Wednesday afternoon and pulled over an unidentified man who they thought may have been Eric Frein, the accused cop killer from Pennsylvania currently on the run, according to police radio transmissions and police sources.

The man was driving a black truck with Pennsylvania plates on the West Shore Expressway, and had two passengers in the vehicle. Cops pulled a man, wearing jeans and a beige t-shirt, and woman, in sweats, out of the car and searched them, sources said.

The woman was visibly distraught.

One NYPD source who heard the incident on the scanner was skeptical from the beginning that it was Frein, a survivalist who shot two Pennsylvania state troopers before fleeing in the woods.

"They get this guy in a regular car stop?" the source said. "He's not going to stop for police."

One couple at the hotel said they saw about eight or nine police cars and a few undercover vehicles lined up on Glenn Street off the West Shore Expressway near the hotel.

"We were wondering what was going on," said the man, who wished not to be identified. "I thought they were doing an exercise or something. If it was that guy (Frein), that would make sense."

It wasn't immediately clear who the male driver was and if he or any of the passengers were arrested.

Police did not provide further details.

Pretty good article that provides some new background information on Eric Frein.

http://www.mcall.com/news/local/mc-eric-frein-profile-20141001-story.html#page=1

"I think he shaved his head in my son's bathroom," Joel Smith said.

Joel Smith said the experience has been deeply distressing for his son (Joel), who has hired attorneys.

----

"When she saw a strange car parked behind her Ridgeway Street rental property, Sara Smith-Katz assumed the driver was a student at nearby East Stroudsburg University..

"Excuse me, you can't park there," Smith-Katz yelled.

"Even if I'm staying here?" the driver replied.

Smith-Katz, of Stroudsburg, was one of the last people to speak to the self-styled survivalist ..."

Hmm, a little poking around on the mcall article I posted earlier http://www.mcall.com/news/local/mc-eric-frein-profile-20141001-story.html#page=2 and found this on Wikipedia;

"...81 North Courtland Street, the oldest home in East Stroudsburg. The home is now privately owned and renovated by Joel Smith. Could it be the father of Justin Smith, Eric's longtime friend?

Also, according to the wiki, 81 N. Courtland has a rich early American military history, a subject both Eric and Justin were "fascinated" with.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Brodhead_IV

There is a Justin R Smith 30-34 years old listed at that address on Whitepages.com which is where I got the address from.
