A police perimeter was established at Rt 23 & Rt. 100 in northern Chester County. People have to pass checkpoints before being allowed home. Police believe escaped prisoner Danelo Cavalcante is in this area. @6abcactionnews

Grasping at straws here, but didn’t they use drones with thermal imaging to (successfully) locate a lost child at night several (okay maybe 5-6) years ago? It was admittedly in the middle of winter and also a cornfield or something. But maybe this technique could be deployed when it gets colder?

Edited to add: the case I’m thinking of was in 2019 (below), but in the course of googling, it seems there have been quite a few cases of drone operators helping to locate missing little kids.

Weather in the area has been hot and humid for about a week. I've heard infrared wasn't very effective. However today and tonight will be much cooler, hopefully they can utilize thermal imaging tonight.

Its not a stupid question as thermal imagers rely on heat and heat variances are more detectable at night.

It probably depends on the level of the thermal imaging devise being used. Military grade thermal imagers work in the day time- but at a relatively reduced level depending on heat, terrain etc.

But....Thermal imagers have come a long ways. As with cell phones and a variety of other techno gadgets, prices have fallen to the point where every day people can afford what was once considered military grade thermal imagers.

Getting to the point.... the police are likely using pretty high grade, modern (but not ubber, best of the best modern military) imagers. These would be small, portable and would work in the day time to a good degree.
