Jermaine Jackson, 20, was found guilty of second-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. He had earlier turned down a plea deal that would have gotten him 20 to 40 years.

Jackson made an obscene hand gesture towards photographers as he left the courtroom, and his father railed against the sentence and the racial makeup of the jury (one black and 11 whites).

Breon Powell, 21, and Kazair Gist, 19, of Trenton, are currently standing trial. Prosecutors say they were the gunmen in the botched robbery at the musician's Crabtree Drive home on Dec. 28, 2011.

Another Trenton man, Jermaine Jackson, 20, was convicted in May of plotting the robbery and recruiting the others. He's now serving a life sentence.

Two female suspects, Tatyana Henderson, 20, of Bensalem, and Danasia Bakr, 20, of Falls, are awaiting trial. They testified against Jackson and are expected to be called as witnesses for the prosecution in Powell and Gist's trial, possibly next week.

Lawyers in the case projected that the trial, which began Sept. 3, would last about a month.

Both were charged with murder, burglary, robbery, and conspiracy and Weintraub said they will seek the death penalty for Powell, whose birthday was on Monday as well. Gist was a juvenile when the crime occurred and is not eligible for capital punishment, though he faces a maximum life sentence.

It was the second trial in the DeGennaro murder case. In May, Jermaine Jackson, 20, of Trenton, was found guilty of second-degree murder.

Jury spares killer's life in DeGennaro murder

After a grueling five-week trial followed by an emotionally draining penalty phase, the jurors in the Danny DeGennaro murder trial needed less than an hour Wednesday to spare convicted killer Breon Powell’s life.

They believed that shooting the Levittown musician was a “last minute, split-second decision,” juror 11 said outside the county courthouse in Doylestown after the verdict.
