'Savage' killer smiles after sentencing

Jeff Reid Jr., 29, of York, was found guilty of first-degree murder and related offenses on March 10, in the killing of Dashaun Davis, 23.

Wearing an orange York County Prison jumpsuit and a belt that could shock him if he let loose with an outburst, Jeff Reid Jr. was quick, but adamant on Friday.

"The only thing I want to say — I didn't do nothing," said Reid, 29, of York. "Other than that, I don't care."

Calling him a "savage" who has no place in society outside of a cage, Common Pleas Judge Harry M. Ness on Friday sentenced Reid to the mandatory term of life in prison without the possibility of parole — plus 24 to 48 years. Ness also ordered him to pay more than $3,400 in restitution.

Karina Dejesus, 25, entered an Alford plea — that means she didn't admit guilt — to hindering apprehension or prosecution.

A woman who had been accused of wiring her ex-boyfriend money and helping him flee York County when he was wanted for murder will serve one year on probation.
