David Horn Jr. has been missing since Christmas Day, and his father and cousin spent Saturday morning searching for the 36-year-old Trainer resident in 26 acres of woods near Township Line Road, bordering Trainer, Upper Chichester and Chester.

"Negative," David Horn Sr. said Sunday of the recent effort.

David's mother, Marie Horn of Marcus Hook, was frantic to find her son, according to Tim Horn, David's cousin.

Marie Horn's untimely death on Jan. 19 has added to the family's distress. It's also bolstered her ex-husband and nephew's resolve to bring David Jr. home, if possible – before a Feb. 10 memorial honoring the Marcus Hook woman is held at the Star Bar and Hotel, which Marie and her surviving husband owned.

There is no foul play suspected in the death of Marie Horn, Marcus Hook Police Chief John Ireland said Friday.

A $1,000 reward, funded by a member of the Horn family, is being offered to anyone who provides information leading to David’s whereabouts, Horn Sr. said last week.

Two previous search parties in recent weeks collectively drew as many as 40 concerned family, friends and neighbors to other wooded spots in the area, according to Jones.

“Our main concentration is in the wooded areas of Trainer and Marcus Hook,” Jones said. “The family members know his regular walking paths …There have been a lot of search efforts, but the weather in the middle of winter is not our friend.”

David Horn Sr. said his son was last seen between 7 and 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 25, 2017, at Connolly’s Pub, located at 941 Market St. in Marcus Hook. There have been no bank or cell phone transactions since that time, nor any contact with family or friends.

The last call his son made on his cell phone was for an Uber, about 7 p.m. on Dec. 25. As far as his father knows, that Uber was cancelled, but why he does not know.

Horn Sr.’s last contact with his son was by phone on Christmas morning. He invited his son to visit his paternal grandmother in Newark, Del., but Horn Jr. had other plans.

It was Marie Horn who reported her son missing on Jan. 9, according to Jones. Because Horn Jr. told his family that he was going to Las Vegas a few days after Christmas, Horn Sr. said neither he nor his ex-wife initially were too concerned that they hadn’t heard from him for a few days.

“We thought that’s where he was at,” Horn Sr. said.

Acknowledging his son’s battle with alcohol, Horn Sr. said it wasn’t unusual for him to check in on his son.

Horn Jr. had been residing with his grandmother in her home in the 1300 block of Price Street. Since her death last year, he’s been living there alone.

When he arrived on Price Street on Jan. 5, Horn Sr. said his son’s pickup truck was in the driveway. Using his key to enter the house, Horn Sr. walked inside to find lights, television and a fan all running. There were several empty vodka bottles. He also found his son’s unused airline ticket to Vegas.

Horn Sr. said his son’s extreme drinking problem had never stopped him in the past from checking in with relatives.

“We all just thought he was going to show up,” Horn Sr. said, referring to the delay in filing a police report.

According to Jones, Horn Jr. was known to frequent Delaware bars, including The Reef Seafood & Steak Restaurant on Carpenter Station Road in Wilmington.

“It’s been a nightmare for this family,” Jones said, adding that he has checked with area hospitals and morgues as part of his ongoing investigation.

“It’s terrible to see someone go through this, and then with my aunt passing, it’s the icing on the cake,” Tim Horn said. “I feel bad.”

Describing Horn Jr. as a fervent Eagles fan, both his father and cousin said he would not be missing out all the Super Bowl hoopla.

“He’d be nuts right now,” Tim Horn said.

“We would be watching the game together,” Horn Sr. said, his voice breaking with emotion.

Horn Sr. doesn’t know what clothes his son was last wearing. His usual attire is jeans and a hoodie.

His son has numerous tattoos, including a distinctive image of a deer with multiple antlers. It’s above his ankle, but his father isn’t sure whether it’s the right or left side.

Oh goodness. I should have read all the links and such. I must have missed something in one of them. I thought dad just went to his home to check on him and saw he wasn't there, but car was, and empty vodka bottles. :/

Details of Disappearance
Horn was last seen at Connolly's Pub in the 900 block of Market Street in Marcus Hook, Pennsylvania between 7:00 and 7:30 p.m. on December 25, 2017. He called for an Uber ride, but the ride was later canceled for unknown reasons. He has never been heard from again.

At the time of Horn's disappearance, he lived alone in his deceased grandmother's home in the 1300 block of Price Street. Because he told his family he wouldn't be seeing them for Christmas and planned to travel to Las Vegas, Nevada after the holiday, they weren't concerned when they didn't hear from him.

On January 5, Horn's father went to his home to check on him. Horn's pickup truck was in the driveway and the house was deserted. His father let himself in with his key and found the lights, fan and television on. He also found Horn's unused plane ticket to Las Vegas, and several empty vodka bottles. There was no sign of him. His mother reported him missing on January 9.

In spite of his drinking problem, Horn had never been out of touch with his family. His mother, who was very active in the search for him, died unexpectedly in January 2018, and he may not be aware of this. There hasn't been any activity on his bank accounts or cellular phone since Christmas 2017, and his case remains unsolved.
