Daniel, Debra Sue

Meadville Police Department continues to seek information on a missing Meadville woman last seen in Edinboro earlier in the month.

Out-of-state relatives reported Debra Sue Daniel, 67, as missing on Wednesday.

Daniel is a resident of Holland Towers apartments on Market Street, but her last known sighting was around noon Aug. 15 at the Edinboro Manor nursing home, police said. Family members told police that Daniel would walk much of the way and may have hitched a ride.

Daniel is described by police as white, 5 feet, 5 inches tall, weighing 120 pounds with green eyes and dirty-blond hair.

Chief Michael Tautin said Tuesday the search remains active.

Anyone with information on Daniel’s whereabouts is asked to contact police at (814) 724-6100.

“She does have some mental instability. She is bipolar, but she has never not communicated. She is one of those people that needs to talk to people. Like I said four or five times a day that was pretty normal for her. She kind of didn’t have those boundaries. So not hearing form her is completely out of character,” [snip] Family members do believe that she made it back to her apartment in Meadville that day as her purse was found during a wellness check. Her phone and keys along with her wallet were missing.

68-year-old Debra Sue Daniel is missing in Crawford county.

She was last seen on August 15th, leaving out of Edinboro Manor.

Debra has bipolar disorder. She's described as having shoulder-length light-colored hair and a distinct laugh.

It's reported that Daniel made it to the Manor, returned to her apartment, and left out.

It's believed she was abducted while leaving her home the second time.

However, 35-year-old Candice Caffas remains missing. Area residents believe the two are connected. It's not confirmed by Meadville Police if they are.

Missing women: Authorities seek answers to Crawford pair's whereabouts (goerie.com)
State and local police said they have been following up on every tip and possible lead received in the weeks since Caffas, 34, and Daniel, 68, went missing. Local authorities, family members, friends and other volunteers have spent hours searching areas and spreading information about the missing women in an effort to find them.

"It would be great if we could find out something," Daniel's niece, Anne Puckett, said.

Although both women disappeared in a short span of time and lived relatively close to one another, authorities don't believe there is a connection between the two missing persons cases.

I listened to a podcast about these women today - so sad. Debra's niece seems very sweet and like she cares a lot about her aunt.

[...]

Daniel was last seen in Edinboro where she visited her mother at Edinboro Manor Nursing Home. She doesn’t own a car, so should would often walk Route 19 from Meadville to Edinboro. At times she would hitchhike.

She is believed to have gone back to her Meadville apartment later that day because her purse was later found during a wellness check. But her phone, keys and wallet were missing.

Daniel’s family provided a statement on Jan. 2 thanking the police and the community for their ongoing support.

“It has been almost five months since Debra went missing, and we are no closer to any answers in her disappearance. We are handling the search as best as we can from out of state, and we are keeping in touch with detectives. Any new leads that come up we are forwarding to them, and working with any sources that come along for potential help,” the family statement said. “We are so thankful for the help and the prayers from detectives, those on Facebook, those in the Meadville, Edinboro and Erie communities, and from reporters who are helping to keep Debra and Candice’s stories out there. We are confident that we will have answers someday, and until then keeping Debra’s name and face out there is the best possible advantage she has to coming home.”

After listening to the podcast and finding out that she made it back it to her apartment after the nursing home visit I have some questions. Has the apartment ever produced that surveilance footage? And what about that man who showed up in her partment because the staff HAD GIVEN HIM THE KEY?! Has that been pursued? It's been a year. I can't believe the PA State Police have not delved into this case more deeply.

Debra Sue Daniel's disappearance is now being investigated as a homicide. She never made it to Edinboro see her mother on August 15, 2022 as she was actually last seen leaving her apartment with a man 2 days earlier than originally reported.

Details of Disappearance

Daniel was last seen in Meadville, Pennsylvania at 3:44 p.m. on August 13, 2022. She left her apartment at Holland Towers with a white man, got into a small red sedan and drove away. She has never been heard from again. Images of the car she left in, and the man she left with, are posted with this case summary.

There has been no activity on Daniel's bank accounts, social media or bank accounts since her disappearance. Prior to her going missing she kept in regular touch with her family, contacting them four or five times a day, and as she had no vehicle of her own she often walked or hitchhiked to Edinboro, Pennsylvania to visit her mother, who was in a nursing home. No one has heard from her since the day she was last seen, and her loved ones do not believe she cut off contact with them willingly.

Authorities do know the vehicle she left in, and also the identity of the man she left with, but his name has not been publicly released. Police did state that the man traveled to State Game Lands Number 69 in Crawford County with Daniel after leaving Meadville. Her disappearance is considered a possible homicide.
