The Philadelphia Police Department needs the public’s assistance in locating Missing Endangered Person 6-year-old Devante Hayward Jr.

Devante was last seen by his mother on Friday, August 24, 2018, at the Fresh Grocer located at 1501 Market Street, with a male known to her as "Jay". Jay was supposed to bring Devante back to Fresh Grocer at 9pm Friday. Devante's mother made several attempts to contact "Jay" with no response. She notified police on Saturday, August 25, 2018 11pm.

Devante is 6yo, 4’10”, 70lbs, and light brown complexion; with brown eyes and wavy black hair.

"Jay" was last seen wearing a purple shirt. He is known to sell water out front of Fresh Grocer

We are asking anyone with any information on Devante Hayward Jr. or "Jay" to contact the Special Victims Unit at 215-685-3257 or call 911.

So this woman gave her son to someone who she only knows by his first name and then waited more than 24 hours past the time she was supposed to get him back to call the police?? I am very worried for this little boy.

Yup, mums story certainly doesn't ring true. What the hell is wrong with her?

Where did the mom think he and Jay were going if she expected him to be returned to the grocery store at 9 pm? Why entrust her young son with a person she appears to know know very little about?

We teach our children never to go anywhere with strangers, but yet Mom seems to have sent him off with one!

Does Jay really exist?

Not buying this.

According to fb comments, yes. Described as a bum.
Jay may exist but that doesn’t necessarily mean she ever gave him the boy. She may be trying to deflect and the guy who hangs out selling water outside of a market was a story.

According to FB responses the real address is 1501 Broad St.

Obviously his height is wrong too since 6 year olds are pretty much never 4’10”.

Yeah a convenient scapegoat.

The mother tried to contact Jay, so does that mean he has a phone? If so, it is probably a burner or LE would know who he is already.

Does mom work at the grocery store? The child sold water outside the store? What? She let a man she knows only by his first name take the child on Friday and didn't report him missing until Saturday night?

IF any of this is true, it boggles my mind that people are so stupid with their own children.

No, the man "Jay" sold water outside the store.

Why is there no description of "Jay"?

They haven’t issued an amber alert which makes me wonder if they even believe this ‘Jay’ person has Devante. He seems to meet the other requirements but one of them is a confirmed abduction.
