Man Arrested in Gay Dating App Rape, Robbery
''Philadelphia Police have arrested the man they say raped, beat and robbed a tourist after the two men met on the popular gay dating and hookup app Grindr.

Twenty-six-year-old Douglass Spady, a.k.a. Douglass Casey, of the 5200 block of Cottage Street, was arrested Sunday and is facing a slew of charges, including deviant sexual intercourse and kidnapping for ransom in connection with the April 9 attack at the Hilton Home 2 Suites on 12th and Arch Streets.

Spady allegedly pulled a gun on a 34-year-old Canadian man, in his hotel room, and raped him.

The victim, who was visiting Philadelphia to take part in an education conference, told NBC10.com that he invited the suspect over to his room after they met on Grindr''.

Dino is referenced in this blog..
Grindr Sucks Rant Blog: Death by Grindr: Is It the New Killer App?

Interesting. The guy Dino met reportedly was via Adam4Adam.com , although, conflicting reports inaccurately state grindr (more typical hook up app). Its unfortunate because the Douglass case happened in early April and Dino's case was in late April :-(

Thank you Dotr.

A mystery in Philadelphia
''McBee, who currently lives in Arlington, Va., told the Washington Blade that many news media outlets that published stories about the murder shortly after it occurred incorrectly reported that Dizdarevic met the man he traveled to Chester to see on Grindr, another social media hookup app.
“It was Adam4Adam, not Grindr,” McBee said.''

Random thoughts.. Complete speculation, imo, fwiw..
Wondering if they are quite sure that Dino was murdered at the spot where he was found?

Not likely, but..
Often it seems that when a victim is strangled and/or the face has been horribly battered, it is someone known to them who is very angry at the victim, or very jealous of them. Dino was good-looking, young, in a loving relationship and successful in his work.
Any chance someone, perhaps a "frenemy" set him up?

Did Dino's wallet ever turn up, were any credit cards ect. used?

Did Dino have a preferred type/race/ethnicity/age/occupation of guy that he might be inclined to date?

I watched this video:
I lived in Chester for a few years and grew up in Delaware County PA. I had a friend that lived on 9th ave so I drove down that street a lot. This murder is really tragic. The boyfriend made me uncomfortable when he was crying (trying to cry) which could mean absolutely nothing. Have the police questioned the man from chester? If it's a hate crime they need to address that.

Yes, this the most unusual part about this case. Dino's friends were able to use his phone and the Adam4Adam app to identify the name, address, etc. of the person who contacted him to meet up. Yet LE has done nothing about it. Did they talk to the guy? Did he take a poly? Did someone hack his account? I'm sure there's more info that can be gleaned from Adam'

Adam4Adam - Wikipedia
''Crime

In October 2006, New York City-area media including The New York Times and WCBS-TV reported that Adam4Adam was the focus of a conspiracy to find gay men online to rob. A number of men in New York City used the site to lure a Brooklyn man to a remote area where he was robbed and murdered. The men were found when one user was identified via his screenname.[12][13][14][15]

Police in NYC were able to track and arrest the killer in a similar crime by investigating him via his screen name on Adam4Adam.

I'd really like to know why LE wasn't able to follow up on that lead. In the Crime Watch video, they make some excuse about not knowing Dino's password, but his friends were able to hack and get the info. Why doesn't LE allow them to help with that? Do they still have his cell phone? A cell phone company will usually allow access with that info if LE has a search warrant.

Chester is 10 minutes up the road for me. I worked at the hospital bordering Chester. I even went to high school in the area. It is a shame when you don't know an area, and you wander into a trap, lured by these social apps. There is no doubt this guy got set up.

Is everyone sure he never went to chester before? It just seems like a random place to get dropped off at. There is a gas station off 9th if you want to at least see what someone looks like in the light. There is also a train station that offers a way back to Philly in the center of town. If you aren't familiar with that area you really don't have much to go off of in they way of landmarks. There is the Chester Upland School of the Arts, maybe? That's probably not well known unless you considered sending a child there. I hope the boyfriend isn't involved. Maybe he just tried to force emotion for the camera and it came off awkward. Hopefully someone in LE checked out his statements. It's disheartening that they couldn't get into Dino's phone. It seems like something that would be a common issue when dealing with murder victims who have complicated passwords. IDK?

No, no one is sure, but the article said he went to meet someone via social media, and he is not from the area. From what I read, he was meeting a stranger in an unknown area.

I was wondering if with they vague police comments about a password if it was possible that his communication with whoever in Chester was faked? I might be so off the mark, it just seems like LE dropped the ball and blamed the victim and didn't do much investigating. Usually you look at people closest to the victim or whoever he was contacting. It seems like something that could be solved.

I cant really say. I would imagine the police department has limited resources and unlimited crime, but yeah, you are probably right about it is solvable. I have no idea of the inside workings of a small city like that, but it would not surprise me if it was not investigated much.

Chester has more resources than Ridley Township Police Department. Chester PD has experience with crime and most officers live in the city. If this was a hate crime that isn't a good look for a city that depends on heavily on a college and it's students for a good part of it's financial well being. I wonder if anyone reached out to Widener's LGBTQ+ group.

Chester gets money from the casino too. The colleges usually take care of their own campus. At least, in Philly they do at Penn and Temple. I would think Widener has it's own police, which isn't near where he was dropped off. His is one of many cases that are not solved. I know, because some were on this site.

It has security but Chester PD is the main security if you live near or on campus. Students tutor all around Chester. People from Chester go to Widener. Many students commute from different parts of Delaware County. If it was hate crime than it could easily be a student next time. That there could be a next time should concern everyone.

When anyone is killed, it should concern everyone. No life is more valuable than another. Are you saying the crime is not solved just because of sexual orientation? If so I disagree.

I see this crime as the same as the regular unsolved crimes in a high crime area. It's a dangerous area, regardless of the sexual orientation part of the crime. The woman killed at the hotel near Crozer is also unsolved, and there is probably a long list.

I believe he took a cab/taxi/Uber type vehicle there and that is where he was dropped off. So if he were going to meet someone for a rendezvous, he wouldn’t be the wiser. His black leather jacket, a jacket he always wore, was missing at the scene too. I’ve read through many threads where the boyfriend is looked at as being suspicious, But I just don’t see that. Possibly his emotions is because the video was taken a year after the murder, he was already probably blamed and shamed, etc. that’s just my opinion.

IMO, I don’t believe the DA at that time really investigated it. There were numerous murders in that city that year (I believe 2-3 a month), the family of the victim wasn’t local to pressure the DA, the victim was gay in an open relationship, etc etc etc. But there should be enough traces to follow: potential DNA, Adam4adam records, the cab driver, the place the phone was found, etc etc etc. Sighs. Thanks for responding!!!

I cannot access this, but you might have some free views.

In 2016, ONE THIRD of killings get solved in Chester. ONE THIRD. There is no bias here, if crime is just running rampant with no one solving it.

Yes, I have seen the statistics, there is/was just a lot of crime. 49 murders in 2014. Yikes. I am sure that it is especially difficult to solve a murder of someone with no known relation to the community and family members not local (to advocate for continuous ongoing investigation) .

From the videos posted, former DA John Whelan, now the Judge of the Court of Common Pleas of Delaware County, seems emotionally defeated and unsure.

Whelan is no longer DA. The Democrats took over last election. I don't know if it matters, if you don't have the resources to keep up with the crimes.

Heres an interesting article, where the McBee (the boyfriend) states the Detectives didnt know much about Chester. PressReader.com - Your favorite newspapers and magazines.

Cops try to track victim before his ‘vicious’ murder

Police are asking for help in solving the murder of Dino Dizdarevic, who was found beaten and strangled in a Chester alleyway May 1.

A tribute to Dino Dizdarevic is shown. Dizdarevic was found dead in Chester on May 1.

CHESTER — As the family of 25-yearold Dino Dizdarevic prepares for his burial on Saturday, investigators are tracking down numerous leads in the hope one will point to his killer.

Dizdarevic, who fled war-torn Bosnia with his parents and sister in 1993, was found beaten and strangled May 1 in an alleyway behind some homes in the 900 block of Parker Street in Chester. Investigators described the killing as “vicious,” so much so that it was difficult to identify his remains.

There was no wallet on him when he was found and it took several days before his body was identified.

Detectives are trying to zero in on whom Dizdarevic was with just before he was brutally murdered.

A chemical engineer, he moved to Philadelphia with his boyfriend, Nick McBee, several months ago.

McBee told investigators they had an open relationship and knew that Dizdarevic was going to Chester to meet up with someone he’d met on a gay hookup site the night of April 30.

“( McBee) didn’t know who he was going to meet,” said Chester Detective Joseph McFate, who along with county Detective William Gordon, is leading the investigation. “According to McBee, neither of them knew anything about Chester.”

Chester annually tops the list with the highest violent crime rate in Delaware County and has one of the highest per capita murder rates in the nation.

When Dizdarevic didn’t return home, McBee became concerned. He filed a missing person report with Philadelphia police on May 1.

Search warrants have been obtained for Dizdarevic’s phone and computer, which are now being examined by forensic experts.

Investigators are trying to determine how Dizdarevic got to Chester because his car remained parked in Philadelphia.

They are asking anyone who saw him in Chester the night of April 30 or early on May 1 to call 610-447-8428 or 610-8914700.

A memorial service was held for Dizdarevic in Richmond, Kentucky, on Thursday.

He is to be buried at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Richmond Cemetery.

Would this be the leather jacket that Dino was known to wear?
If so, wondering if a billboard with a pic. of Dino wearing it could be put up in the Chester neighbourhood, somebody is likely still wearing it, imo, speculation.

"Whelan said the initiative began early yesterday with a warrant sweep that netted 10 violent fugitives. It will continue with State Police and SEPTA police joining with Chester cops to double the number of officers who patrol the city's streets and transit system.

Chester will also partner with the FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the U.S. Attorney's Office, the U.S. Marshals and Delaware County Probation and Parole, Whelan said.

Officials plan to work with business owners and citizens to add surveillance cameras and they will schedule meetings with gun dealers to talk about how to prevent straw purchases, Whelan said.

The city has received a $100,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency to purchase a new ballistics microscope to help solve gun cases. The one the department uses now is 40 years old.

According to Whelan, this is the largest-ever comprehensive plan to target violence in Chester, which, he said, has reached "epidemic proportions."

Just last week, Dino Dizdarevic, 25, a Kentucky native who was living in Philadelphia, was found beaten to death in a Chester alleyway. His slaying, which was the city's 11th, remains unsolved.

Linder stressed that he has not issued a state of emergency in the city but he said that everyone should feel a sense of urgency anyway."
