It's in a paywalled article from 2020 done by a PennLive reporter who learned of the Informant and actually met and interviewed him a couple of times.
In his interviews with friends, investigators, etc. involved in Ray's case, someone gave him the name of the Informant who shared information about Ray's disappearance. The Informant was interviewed and checked out by LE, etc. He claimed he was told about Ray's fate by a cellmate in prison who was involved in the murder. The Informant received no special treatment for sharing the story. The names he gave in relating the story were legit criminals.
The cellmate who told the Informant the story claimed he worked for some organized crime people in PA.
Could an informant hold the key to solving the mystery of the missing Centre County district attorney?

The informant's cellmate who told the story claimed to have been contracted by the drug ring leaders to kill the guy who was investigating them - Ray. This was a drug ring that was operating around State College, PA. The cellmate and his friend (referred to as "the two men") had experience in contracting with criminals to kidnap and murder people and commit other dangerous crimes. The cellmate's criminal record validated that type of criminal activity.
