A Lycoming County judge has heard conflicting opinions on whether a Virginia man is competent to stand trial on charges he killed an elderly man in his home last year.

If Norby-Vardac is found to be competent, Hoffa indicated he will seek a non-jury trial. He filed notice last November he plans to pursue an insanity defense.

Norby-Vardac is being held without bail on charges of homicide, aggravated assault, burglary, robbery, possession of an instrument of crime, criminal mischief and theft.
