I guarantee you if they were targeting blacks (or any other race for that matter), they would be shut down in a second. I'm all for freedom of speech, but this is really a hate crime. What they have written on their posters (that they wave to everyone) is beyond vulgar.

I know, I stand by my comment about him being a closet homosexual. i hope one of his sons comes home one day with a jewish boyfriend and then perhaps he will learn a lesson in tolerance but probably not.

I'd be willing to be the farm that Phelps has a secret of some sort. This guy will never understand why he is wrong, any more than Hitler did. I'd also be willing to bet that his family doesn't have a choice in the matter. It's his way, or the highway. Why more don't leave the fold, is beyond me. I've seen young girls that couldn't have been more than 12 or 13 waving those nasty signs. They must homeschool the kids because I've seen them during the school year out and about during the day. It should be a crime to do what he is doing to the children in his family.

I was also confused. I think maybe they don't want to believe that it could have been a member of the local community. They would rather think it might be an outsider.

I agree with you - I hope it was him and not some other night crawler.

That is an absolutely fantastic hospital. A young relative had surgery there some years back and had many follow-up visits, some of which I attended. We were always treated very, very well by all hospital staff with whom we came in contact. I am not surprised by this generosity on their part.

anyone find any more articles that might shed some light on why a perfectly normal-seeming, hard-working family man & good husband & father- would suddenly turn into a complete pscyho, in the blink of an eye-- and do such a thing.. give up his own happy, loving family & his own life and take innocent children down with him in the process, for no reason... with seemingly no warning whatsoever? was anyone ever able to talk to his wife & get any more info from her? or other relatives? were there financial problems that made him snap? did they do an autopsy to see if he had any brain tumors or other abnormalities?
still trying to wrap my brain around it,, and i just can't.

Reb, it wasn't exactly the blink of an eye. His coworkers said he had been in a bad mood for some time. Then his mood suddenly lightened (we now know he had made his plans) just a few days before the crime.

I don't know that it helps to understand the why he did what he did to know that, but he didn't go from a well-adjusted guy to a cold-blooded killer in one day. He had been spiraling downward in attitude for some time.

There were no brain abnormalities found that would explain anything.

I think he was chronically and deeply depressed about Elise and never sought professional help for his feelings. The depression got so deep that he became psychotic and delusional.
