Using 2 strands of rootless hair collected after exhumation, Astrea Forensics successfully sequenced the genome and delivered a SNP profile to Pennsylvania State Police investigators.

At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if Ruth's family tried to report her missing only for police to dismiss her as a runaway.

How are we feeling about Ruth's facial reconstructions? I think the NCMEC one does resemble her slightly.
It's interesting because on the one hand, it doesn't look much like her, and yet, the bone structure is spot on.

"Investigators are still trying to figure out if Ruth was reported missing at the time."

I looked through all the newspapers I can and there's no evidence of her disappearance. If she was reported missing, I feel LE at the time would've just assumed she was a runaway and threw the file into a locker, assuming she'd come home. If she wasn't reported missing, it'd shock me. How could you not report your 14-year-old relative missing after she left home for school and never came back?

Either way, rest in peace, Ruth.

Lord help me to deciper this info from CNN. Her body was found under a tarp in the woods, she's 14 yrs old, and didn't return from schhol. And there is suspicion if it was homicide? What?

"Two game wardens discovered the decomposed remains under a plastic tarp and brush in a wooded area in Union Township on October 10, 1973."

"While there was “some level of suspicion” to her death, whether it was a homicide, is still pending through the coroner’s office, Pennsylvania State Police Sgt. Josh Lacey said Thursday."

Homicide as opposed to accidental death and then hiding the body. Overdose is probably the most common accidental death in a case like that.

Her death was 1973. Doubtful middle school kids were yet into serious drug availability and overdoses. Not so easy to get much more than weed back then unless you had $$$ and connections. Let's recall too that she disappeared while returning from school. Wonder what the school admin and her friends had to say back then - guess that will remain an unknown. And who covered her with a tarp? How did she get deep into the woods coming home from school? Wouldn't you think someone would have, at least, buried her?
