You guys are great! I told the detective on this case that is anyone can figure out where that bag came from it would be the folks on Websleuths! Keep up the good sleuthing!

I would strongly suggest they contact the home office for Fas Chek Food Mart, they are located in Charleston WV and have them take a look at the photos of the bag. It's been a long time since we had a fas chek here in town, but that bag really rung a bell and then shadowangel put the name on it.

I wonder if the ated or whatever could be family "operated." About the mid 80's is when all the moms and pops started the battle against Wal-mart. Maybe this bag was part of a marketing campaign to keep people shopping at a locally-owned business rather than wal-mart.

I really do think it's worth a check!!

I suspect you are are right. And according to pennsylvaniamissing it looks like there were two separate pieces of bag. And the ated is on both.
After the FA, can anyone make out the other two letter's? The next partial letter has a verticl mark with a hook over the top. Maybe an M? The last letter, I don't know. A small o, q, or d. Since all of the other letters are capitalized, that doesn't seem right.

I'm starting to think more and more that it is a Fas Chek bag. I think there are several of them still operating in Charleston and other parts of the state. I'll get a Charleston paper tonight and see if i can find an ad with the logo. If so, I'll try to post it.

Actually, it looks about the same as I remember from the '70s.

I was hoping that on a grocery bag or in a news ad maybe the whole logo would be in a horizontal line rather than offset & stacked as it appears in this current online image.

Little late comin ing here, but had to try. I did see a chain of Fast and Fresh rest. in Pa. The other could be cater. I think its going to be a bag from little store type place.


The Outlet was an excellent idea. I"ll look around a little for that.

I cannot remember, but that bag sure as heck looks like it says Fazios on it to me, I don't know if they had any in PA though.

One problem I've thought of, though, is that that's a pretty old logo, fifties or sixties, maybe? I don't think people used plastic grocery bags then.

Also, what could the "49" be, as it's clearly a part of the over-all logo. I can't find anything called "Fazio's 49."

Sure wish there was an image search that could base a search on something like, "bag, retail, red, white, fa*, 49."

I think that it may be possible that the number is actually a 3 digit one, with 49 being the first two digits. The problem is that the bag is torn and part of it missing, while there are stretches, stains and wrinkles on the remaining portion.

You are right about shopping bags being made of paper throughout the 50's and 60's. I recall the question "paper or plastic" starting some time in the later 1970's. I would think that this plastic bag was made sometime within a year prior to the woman's murder.

Just looking at a number of shopping bags, they usually have the name and logo on the top, with some sort of slogan or catch phrase below, like "Extra Low Prices" or "Friendly Service for xx Years", "Always something Exciting", etc. The larger chain stores all seem to have identical bags, with no address but I have seen a few bags from smaller individual businesses which have an address or phone number on the bag somewhere.
