PA - Harrisburg, Governor's Mansion hit by arson, Gov Josh Shapiro and family inside, 13 Apr 2025

So this guy loses his house because he didn’t pay his mortgage and decides that’s the Governor’s fault.
Nut.
Thank goodness no one was hurt, but this guy’s intentions were to hurt them.
To hurt other people because he did not pay his mortgage.

That is not the reason he attempted to murder the Governor and his family: He is filled with rage and hate, and of course his problems are somebody else's fault-- in this case, whatever causes his rage he decided the Governor was the problem- I think I read he also hated X president Biden---

Statement from Pennsylvania State Police:

"The suspect in the arson that occurred at the Governor’s Residence on 04/13/25 has been identified as Cody A. Balmer, 03/23/1987, of Harrisburg, PA. He was taken into custody without incident and charged through Magisterial District Court 12-1-02, Harrisburg. Due to a medical event not connected to this incident or his arrest, Balmer was transported to an area hospital where he is currently receiving treatment. He remains under PSP supervision and will be transported to the Dauphin County Prison for arraignment upon his release."

Balmer arraignment - no bail. I hope the photo shows up with the preview, it's...something.

Where are his eyeballs??
When I pinch this open they look like they’re rolling in his head????

To think that Gov. Shapiro and his family and guests could have/would have burned to death, or been asphyxiated, due to this man’s insane actions.

I’m grateful that the governor’s security was able to bang on the doors to get everyone out safely, but the idea that this maniac was able to enter the home at all is extremely troubling.

I wonder if it’s purely coincidental that this cretin planned to use a hammer to beat Governor Shapiro, ir if perhaps he was inspired by the 2022 home invasion/hammer attack on Paul Pelosi by another deranged man <modsnip>

<modsnip: Quoted post was modsnipped> Lots of crazies out there these days. I was just reading today about National Intelligenece Director Tulsi Gabbard and the violent threats that she and her husband have been getting. Others in the administration as well. And I think that the would-be assassin who showed up at the home of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh will finally be sentenced this October. This has been going on for quite awhile now and we need to be sending a strong message that this kind of political violence isn't acceptable.

I'm sure it's inspired, same kind of insane and horrifying monsters walking around focusing on the known political people they hate. Pelosi's husband was collateral damage, he was waiting for NP. This one is absolutely not even a human being I think?

Yes, that makes more sense, it just seemed that it’s more political or loss of something rather than religious ideology.
In one of the articles that was posted, his mother said that he was off his medication and that she had tried to get help, including by contacting LE. I'll see if I can find it. I wonder if LE had him hospitalized before his court appearance so that he could get back on his meds before court, but from the faces he was making, it sure doesn't seem like any medications had taken effect by that time. Maybe we'll learn more if his attorney argues that he isn't competent to go to trial. Just speculating.

Not SD, but...

Includes her quote about reaching out to multiple PD agencies for help and about him being off his meds.

This would have never happened if I could have gotten some help the middle of last week because I tried to get him picked up [by police] … and I went through four police departments and I couldn’t get anybody to help,” she said.

So he was mentally ill, went off his meds, and this is what happened,” she said. Balmer said in court that he had been off his medication because it “led me to different types of behavior,” but he did not elaborate.

The suspect, Cody Balmer, called 911 following the attack early Sunday, identified himself by name and told operators Shapiro needs to know he “…will not take part in his plans for what he wants to do to the Palestinian people,” the search warrant written by police said.

Officials report that Balmer’s mother had also contacted Crisis Intervention on April 6; however, police say since Balmer did not make threats to himself or others, his case “did not meet the threshold for an involuntary mental health evaluation.”

Officials state that an individual can only be involuntary committed if they exhibit the following behavior:

Presenting a clear and present danger to others
Unable to self-care
Attempting suicide or expressing suicidal or homicidal ideations
Self-mutilating
