PA - Her arm stuck in drop-off bin, woman freezes

  • #41
I'd suspect her financial situation was getting pretty grim. What I want to know is what was the motive. Judging by her pics she looks pretty comfortable, which is why it's so weird why a woman would be stealing clothes in the middle of the night. Drug problem maybe? Mounting financial trouble? Boredom? It's bizarre whatever the reasoning.

I thought the same thing when I saw the first pic of her.

ah ha drugs never crossed my mind - RX? Helpful notion.

If we're to believe she often donated clothing, maybe she accidentally donated something on accident and was trying to get it back.

Ah ha again!! That kinda makes sense -- bringing a ladder with you etc etc

You're probably absolutely right about the Hummer being gifted to her if that's the case. Could have been hoarding, may have been trying to start eBaying or reselling in some regard, may just have been facing financial problems, just what I can think of top of my head. Need more info.

DId she live alone??

Friend of mine had one. They are awesome to ride in - amazing - feels like your on a couch in the passenger seat - was unreal.

I remember the first time I saw one - I thought they were awesome looking!

She leased, I could never afford one but it was not really that bad - dont remember the exact number but remember being surprised - she was smart money wise - put advertising on it (realitor) so that it made it not bad at all.

She was an obnoxious driver to begin with - being in that thing made her worse - its like if you hit something not a damn thing would happen to you!!

I wonder how tall the stool was? I'd guess it was needed to reach the bottom of the box. Not sure, since I've never even thought of doing such a thing.

SMH. Driving a Hummer and stealing from the donation box. I feel for her family but she brought her death on herself.

 That *might* be a misdemeanor at most.

The police said in the same articles that she was not donating, but stealing from the donation bin. Of course, I understand why the family would not want to put that bit out there. The stool would not be needed u less she was trying to dig into the bin to fish items out. Her arms would not have been inside the bin either. No one would leave their homes at 2:00am to drop off items at a donation bin, and have a stool, and decide they made a mistake. She was a thief, but IMO, didn't deserve to die such a horrible death. It is apparently very common for people to steal from these bins, according to a local charity that uses them for coats/shoes. She unfortunately died from her actions, but I don't see why everyone doubts the police statement.

I haven't been on that side of Mount Carmel, but that road should be busy enough, even at 2 AM. I can't believe no one saw her being that close to the road.

I have to wonder if maybe she dumped something then realized , she didn't mean to?

Or maybe was just dumping stuff that wasnt supposed to be allowed in the bin?

Would explain her going there at that hour.
Maybe just trying to dump some stuff that was not supposed to be allowed. Could also explain how she got stuck if she was trying to force something too large in the bin.

What an unfortunate ending. Condolences to the family.

I must be hard to admit your wife/mother/grannie died because they were committing a crime, no matter how minor it might be. But, I don't understand why strangers have such a hard time accepting it.

I see no reason to doubt the statements by LE. The stool, the time of night and items she had apparently scattered outside the bin seem to make it clear she was stealing, not donating.

MOO, of course.

Morally, what's worse: finding a book at a thrift charity that you pay $7 for, all the while knowing it's worth at least $400, or going through a few bags of donated clothing and shoes from a thrift bin? Example number one also takes from the poor -- though legally. But is that enough moral cushion?

Really? There's no comparison at all. I shop at thrift stores all the time and I'm not poor. I love a great deal and bargain. I am not being immoral or stealing from the poor in anyway when I find a great deal. For example, recently I found a brand new Kitchen Aid accessory kit still wrapped in boxes (juicer, grinder, spiralizer, shredder and a couple more I can't think of) for $18. I scooped it up quickly. It probably sold retail for a couple hundred dollars. How on earth is that taking from the poor?

I know in my area there are signs on the donation boxes stating it is a crime to take anything out of the box. I can't imagine the horrible pain she suffered as she died. I read it happened at 2:30 Sunday a.m. but she wasn't found until 8:30 MONDAY? Obviously she shouldn't have been doing that, and it's a very shameful way to be found dead, but it's still horrible.

Google maps of the area show that the box was the red one shown in some of the news stories. Not the many other file photos used in stories.

Regarding timing: She was found approximately six hours after she arrived at the box. Her Hummer was still running when she was found so it could not have been 30 plus hours. As I understand it, she arrived at the box at about 2 AM Sunday and was found Sunday morning.

If I'm confused please feel free to correct me. Tks.

After looking at the area and noting the large advertising signs on one side of the box and the drive way on the other, I wonder if the Hummer blocked the view of anyone passing by?

Sorry I offended you. I didn't mean she deserved to die, but that her actions caused her death. I stand by that opinion.

Still, to me it's worth a thought. The example I used was mine -- a book in the series of L. Frank Baum 'Oz' tales, in excellent condition. And then, there was....etc. Lots of steals, as it were.

definitely not "offended".

I can't imagine what was going through her mind in those final hours. She was stealing no doubt, a shame that she didn't get busted in that previous LE report, she'd have a misdemeanor but still be alive. Tragic.
