I still wonder how and why this tragedy happened.

Daisy Vasquez, 32, of Collegeville, Pa., pleaded guilty to charges of endangering the welfare of children and criminal attempt-possession of a firearm by minor, both felonies.

Vasquez was sentenced in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court to 90 days to 12 months in prison in connection with her guilty pleas, court records show.

News reports said that the boy, now 14, admitted to his actions during a juvenile court proceeding in January and was given a sentence of probation for involuntary manslaughter, after prosecutors concluded the shooting was unintentional.

The probationary period may last up until the time the boy is 21 years old.

What a tragedy. I think it's important that, in these very preventable deaths, whoever is the adult responsible for keeping the gun safely secured and locked faces some serious jail time. I just hope this kid is getting some help.
