Somerset County District Attorney arrested, charged with rape, state police say

"The woman [who had known him for several years, professionally] reported to troopers that Thomas had reached out to her via Snapchat Saturday and told her he was coming to her home, state police say."

"She said she told Thomas he was not welcome, but he showed up anyways and entered her home holding several beers, the complaint reads."

"The woman said she continued to ask Thomas to leave, and when he refused, she slapped him causing Thomas to become angry, state police reported."

He's <modsnip> probably with a "substance use disorder". Won't be around to bother her again.

This is a woman who has known him professionally for a few years. The article stated that she had consistently rebuffed all of his "romantic" overtures towards her.

Articles state professional contact. That sounds like attorney, paralegal/secretary (from his office or another firm’s office), courier, court reporter, or court staff (clerks, cashier at cafe, security, etc). I’m sure I’m missing a few.

Attorney General Michelle Henry announced today that a jury has found suspended Somerset County District Attorney Jeffrey L. Thomas guilty of assault, strangulation, and related charges regarding a Sept. 18, 2021, incident at a Windber home.

Thomas, 37, was found guilty of six charges: indecent assault, strangulation, simple assault, unlawful restraint, false imprisonment, and felony criminal trespass.

Senior Judge Timothy P. Creany, who presided over the jury trial, will order sentence on May 16, 2023. Thomas was remanded to the Somerset County Jail following Thursday’s verdict.

“This crime was absolutely abhorrent, even more disturbing because it was perpetrated by a once-trusted public official elected to protect citizens from the types of despicable acts he inflicted on the victim,” Attorney General Henry said following the verdict. “We commend the jurors for their attention to hearing what was a living nightmare for the victim. We are hopeful this verdict offers her a measure of justice and that the upcoming sentence removes Mr. Thomas’s threat to public safety.”

SOMERSET — Suspended Somerset County District Attorney Jeffrey Thomas II was sentenced to 24 to 84 months in state prison Thursday by Senior Judge Timothy Creany in a sexual assault case.

He was ordered by the judge to pay $1,900 in fines, register as a sex offender for 15 years and be credited 157 days for time served.

Thomas was not assessed as a sexually violent predator by the Sexual Offender Assessment Board. Because of the conviction of indecent assault, however, he is considered a sexual offender by law and must register as such.
