Just watched KDKA news (no link up yet) Masters is trying to get out of all this.
Just saying he was there but did nothing to Jennifer. I'll be checking WPXI also for a link.

I just read the entire story (with the recent bump I just now saw it).... but I'm so sickened and sad by this case. My mother lives in a building in which many of the people and mentalities are similar to the victim and defendants in the case. :( :(

Man accused in Death Wants Charges Dropped

Robert Loren Masters said in documents filed Wednesday that there isn't enough evidence to prove that he was involved in the February death of 30-year-old Jennifer Daugherty. The 36-year-old Masters is charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy and other offenses.

Investigators call it "the trial before the trial" as Ricky Smyrnes -- one of six suspects who will stand trial next year for the death of Jennifer Daugherty -- faces a jury on a charge of possessing instruments of a crime.

Teen was "prime instigator" in torture, slaying of mentally disabled Pa. woman Jennifer Daugherty, says prosecutor

(CBS/AP) GREENSBURG, Pa. - Seventeen year-old Angela Marinucci was "the prime instigator" in the torture and slaying of mentally disabled woman Jennifer Daughetry, a prosecutor said. But a defense attorney said it's unreasonable to conclude that a high school senior could have influenced five adults to commit "the ultimate act" of murder.

The two views were presented to jurors Monday at the opening of Marinucci's trial. Marinucci, now 18, is charged with first-degree murder and other crimes in the death of Daugherty, 30, last year.

Daugherty was bound with Christmas decorations, beaten, forced to drink urine and detergent and then stabbed to death in February 2010, prosecutors said. Her body was found two days later, stuffed into a plastic garbage container and shoved beneath a truck in a snow-covered school parking lot.

Westmoreland County District Attorney John Peck told the jury that Marinucci was present for much of the time Daugherty was tortured and killed in a dingy apartment in Greensburg, about 30 miles east of Pittsburgh. Marinucci sometimes stayed there with her boyfriend, 25-year-old Ricky Smyrnes, and four other adults - all of whom are charged in the slaying and awaiting trial.

Two witnesses say jealousy led to Daugherty's murder

An inmate at the Westmoreland County Prison was the second witness this morning to tell a jury that Angela Marinucci wanted Jennifer Daugherty dead.

Marinucci, 18, is on trial for first-degree homicide in the torture slaying of Daugherty, 30, of Mt. Pleasant.

Her body was found in a trash can in Greensburg on Feb. 10, 2010 after Marinucci convinced her five roommates to kill the victim, who was mentally challenged, at their apartment at 248 N. Pennsylvania Ave. in Greensburg, police said.

Marinucci wanted Daugherty eliminated because she was interfering with Marinucci`s boyfriend, Ricky Smyrnes, according to District Attorney John Peck

GREENSBURG, Pa. -- One of six people charged with torturing and killing a mentally disabled western Pennsylvania woman testified that another defendant now on trial had the victim wrapped with a string of lights so she would "look like a Christmas tree."

Amber Meidinger, 21, of Greensburg, also testified Thursday that then-17-year-old Angela Marinucci told another suspect to kill Jennifer Daugherty after the victim had survived slash and stab wounds in the February 2010 attack.

Meidinger testified that her boyfriend, Melvin Knight, 21, and another defendant, Ricky Smyrnes, 25, used the Christmas lights to choke Daugherty, 30. After she was dead, they strung them around Daugherty's body because Marinucci "wanted her to look like a Christmas tree," Meidinger said.

'I give bleach to people to drink,' suspect quoted

Thursday, May 12, 2011

By Torsten Ove, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

A Westmoreland County jail inmate said a woman on trial for homicide made several comments indicating she was involved in the torture and killing of Jennifer Daugherty.

Tina Warrick, 40, of Scottdale, testified today that Angela Marinucci told her it was her idea to lure Ms. Daugerty to the Greensburg apartment where Ms. Daugherty was killed in February 2010 because the victim was sleeping with Ms. Marinucci's boyfriend.

Previous testimony indicated Ms. Daugherty, who had limited mental capacity, was forced to drink a mixture of feces, urine and bleach before she was stabbed to death, tied with a Christmas lights cord and stuffed into a garbage can.

Ms. Warrick said Ms. Marinucci often talked about the case. One time, as inmates were sitting at lunch, Ms. Marinucci said she was upset with co-defendant Peggy Miller. She said she had told Ms. Miller to get battery-operated Chrismas lights from the basement, but Ms. Miller brought a set of plug-in lights to tie around the body.

"She said she wanted the lights to be flashing when they found her," Ms. Warrick said.

Another time, inmates were complaining that the beef stew they were served for lunch looked like dog feces. Ms. Warrick said Ms. Marinucci interjected, "That's OK, I feed feces to retards."

GREENSBURG, Pa. --

Courtney Brennan is in Greensburg covering the trial. Her updates will be highlighted in bold text below.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The trial continues for a woman accused in the torture and slaying of a mentally disabled woman in Greensburg in February 2010.
Amber Meidinger testified Friday against then-17-year-old Angela Marinucci, who’s charged in Jennifer Daugherty’s killing. Meidinger is also charged in the case. She said Marinucci put the slaying in motion because she believed Daugherty was pursuing her boyfriend, Robert Smyrnes, 25, who's also charged.
UPDATE: 12:10 p.m. - Trial breaks for lunch. Meidinger continues testimony at 1:30 p.m.
UPDATE: 11:30 a.m. - Meidinger breaks down on and cries uncontrollably, says she's testifying because it's the least she can do, because she can't bring Jen back.
UPDATE: 10:45 a.m. - Meidinger said there were three “family meetings” held prior to Daugherty’s killing. During the first meeting, she said Smyrnes wanted to figure out who would be a good mother figure for his son, Daugherty or Marinucci.
In the second meeting, Meidinger said Marinucci told Smyrnes that he had to choose between her or Daugherty.
In the third meeting, Meidinger said all six housemates voted to kill Daugherty.
