Found Alive PA - Jeremiah Cottman, 2, missing in Chester; possibly missing since May; mother has not cooperated with the search - Sep 2025

  • #21
In some reports it said the mother is not cooperating and claims he is not missing, @swanniee11 said she confirmed him to be missing. Did she change her mind and I missed it?

This is my first time here, so I apologize for any stupid questions, but if the child is, as the mother seems to claim, safe in the hands of who I believe from the context to be his father and stepmother(?)(Ashley Ferguson and Roger/Yousef Montgomery), LE would just go their home address and check, wouldn't they? How long would that take approximately? Then again, if she claims he's with them, would LE issue a missing person before checking?

The police discovered he was "unaccounted for" a few days ago, and she was supposed to present him at Children's Services yesterday, but she didn't. I think she was initially saying he wasn't missing, but then yesterday she said he is (from the LE update yesterday).

Shades of Casey Anthony. I think she did something to him, or possibly gave him to the people she named for nefarious purposes.

According to the Chester police department, Ashley and Roger are Jeremiah's grandparents. (Screenshot from FB, link is Log into Facebook)

Police say the grandparents haven't been located yet, either, and posted a bunch of pictures at the above link.

Oh, then maybe he's ok?

His father was shot to death in January 2024 at 21 years old:

The mother now claims that the paternal grandparents have Jeremiah.
"Jason was preceded in death by his two brothers Jeremiah Freeman and Jay’vion Patterson."

Oh those poor parents! No father listed in the obit.

Both brothers were younger. It looks like Jeremiah Freeman was just 4 when he died in a fire in 2019. He would have been missing Jeremiah's uncle.

Jav'vion Patterson died in 2021 at 13 years old:

So the grandma, who supposedly has Jeremiah, lost three young sons (including Jeremiah's father) in 5 years?

I'm not sure. She doesn't seem to be listed on Jay'vion's obit (there's a ton of people listed as surviving him, but I don't see any parents) and Jeremiah doesn't have an obit to speak of.

The most recent comments are disturbing - not sure if the grandparents are okay.
None of this is good.
IMO.

She is named at the beginning of Jav'vion's obit.

Judging by the date, this could be him:
A 13-year-old boy was found dead in the front yard of a house in Chester, Delaware County, late Monday night, with bullet wounds from gunfire that injured two others, police said.

So grandma had three sons of which two were killed in separate shootings and one in a fire.

Holy cow.

I believe this is Mom's FB:

It kind of gives off a Casey Anthony vibe...let's hope these people actually exist and have Jeremiah, but we all know how unlikely this is. :(

My thoughts exactly.

It's surprising how many people distrust the police and the social services, but rely only on the mother's word about the child's safety, regardless if she has custody. At first she claimed that her son was not missing, so everyone was supposed to just back off and mind their own business.

The grandparents appear to have had or still have drug addiction issues. I wonder if the same applies to Jeremiah's mom? Has anyone said when the last time the grandparents were seen? If it's been a while, I would believe they did something to Jeremiah or something happened to all three of them.
Let's hope they're in hiding only because they don't want to give him back.

And I also wonder what was going on with the DV incident at the mom's home. I'm not automatically assuming she's the victim. I wonder if it was common for mom to send Jeremiah or any of her other children for months at a time.

I hope he is found safe. So sick of these stories.
