Just released this morning, Gregory Graf to go to trial; it's unclear if he will seek the "insanity" defense.

So his formal arraignment was today...the article doesn't specify but I'm assuming he pled not guilty. They have until May 29th to release a mental health plea.
I can't believe he's pleading not guilty.

Pleading guilty isn't going to make his lawyers much money.

Pleading guilty isn't going to get wall-to-wall media coverage.

Pleading guilty isn't going to get much face time in front of the TV cameras everyday.

Putting on a mental illness defense takes thousands of billable hours and numerous high priced "experts".

Pleading "not guilty" is good for business........ pleading "guilty", not so much.


The end result will be the same regardless, but why not drag it out for awhile ? This is a big part of the reason why defense attorney's are frowned upon.

I suspect Graf was willing to plead guilty right from the beginning, but was discouraged from doing it by you-know-who.

Pleading not guilty allows the defensive to throw as much speculative "reasoning" at the proverbial wall to see if any of it sticks and a guilty plea leaves none of that for the judge in the sentencing phase,imo.

Not even slightly alike, that case with this one. This guy confessed, they have him on video doing stuff to her, they know how Jessica died, they know exactly when she died, and it's a slam dunk on "who done it."

He'll never be declared mentally incompetent. Far too much planning involved as well as the intentional recording of himself killing her and then having sex with her dead body. Then burying her and planting her car in a parking lot in an attempt to cover it up. That displays more competence than half the people I deal with on a regular basis!

Everytime I come in here to catch up on this thread, it makes me sick to my stomach to recall what this guy did. It would be really nice if he would just make a deal with the D.A. and quietly go away, never to be seen again.

Taking this to trial is going to be especially cruel for the surviving family members. Imagine them having to sit in a courtroom while the video Graf made of himself with Jessica is playing on the screen. For those familiar with the Jodi Arias trial, this would be the equivalent of not only having the photo's she took during the killing, but having an actual video of her killing him.

Hopefully, Graf will decide not to air all of his dirty laundry in a courtroom either. Does he deserve a defense ? I suppose he does. Is it going to work with a jury ? No way.......there is NO defense for what he did to her.

He is just another level of evil that doesn't deserve to breathe our air. I mean, he took all of Jessica's air & than basically took a piece of her children's & her mothers air forever too...

I just hurt for all of them.

This is one of those cases that is an example of the basis of the show, American Crime that aired on NBC. Alllllllllll of the people that one crime affected.
