PA PA - Joey Offutt, 33, State College, July 2007

Deanna- Can you tell us about Joey? Did she suffer from PPD with any of her pregnancies? I remember reading somewhere that she was really proud of her house, which leads me to believe she would not burn it down. Was her relationship with her boyfriend volatile? How long did she live in State College? Who lived there with her?

As far as I know Joey never suffered from PPD with any of her children. She was the nicest person you could ever meet, she was the type of person that would give you her last penny if you needed it. Please come join our fb page and myself and her family can answer any questions you all have. https://www.facebook.com/groups/202436456466193/

Deanna,
Do you think the things Alexis said about her are true? Like the whole bathing the baby in a dirty sink? When I watch him on the Disappeared episode, I get the feeling he is either lying or exaggerating. And a lot more. The incident with his son and Joey's daughter bothers me a lot as well.

I think it could be two or three possible theories. 1.) Alexis did away with her,2.) someone she was talking to online ,3.) or she hurt the baby, set the house on fire and fled and died by her own hand or the elements. I am strongly leading towards number 1.

I need to see this ID episode. Sounds like a very strange case.

Hello. I am new here - although I have lurked as a visitor for years. I have to say, I really admire your commitment to these cases.

I have seen the Joey Lynn Oufitt episode on ID twice. I have also read some postings about Joey making comments on a Yahoo forum that indicated abuse in her relationship and that she was going to get an order of protection.

I think people must read these postings with a high degree of suspicion. First, it is impossible to verify whether the Yahoo comments are true or not. If she never told people in her immediate circle about any violence, then why would her comments on the Internet have more credibility?

Also, I did a docket search for every court in Pennsylvania (available online), and I found no case involving an order of protection being awarded to or sought by Joey. The only cases involving her name were traffic violations. So, the family was right -- she was a terrible driver. She has a few "running red light" and "running stop sign" arrests and one contempt conviction (probably for failing to either show up in court for the traffic violation or to comply with a judge's order regarding one of those infractions).

Also, we do not know her mental condition. The family says she had the mind of a teenager. I wonder what caused this. Also, did she have an emotional or behavioral disorder? This could lead to large amounts of false postings seeking attention and sympathy from strangers -- because her family and friends would see through the false statements.

I too got creepy vibes from the BF, but it is just important to keep these other stories in proper perspective. They are uncorroborated expressions by someone who might have had major mental and emotional problems.

Interesting insights. I find it particularly interesting that you couldn't find an order of protection docket being awarded to Joey.

Search for Joey Lynn Offutt Continues 7 Years after Disappearance

Posted On 11 Jul 2014
SYKESVILLE - Although there have been no substantial leads, police and family members continue their search for a Sykesville woman who has been missing for seven years, according to the family’s Web site, findjoey.org.
Seven years ago in the early morning of July 12, 2007, authorities responded to a fire at Joey Lynn Offutt’s Sykesville home. After the fire was extinguished, the remains of Offutt’s six-week-old son were discovered. However, Offutt and her car, a red Saturn with Virginia license plates, were missing.

Some states do not publish the names or addresses of domestic violence victims when they file for restraining orders. Did anything that could be a PPE/RO show up under the boyfriend's name?

I watched the episode of Disappeared on her this morning. This case seems so odd because she just seems to be gone. Who set the fire? What happened to the baby? Who put her car there?

I have to wonder if she is not one of the does some where from PA to VA.

I just watched the Disappeared episode and my thoughts immediately went to Alexis being responsible for this. Supposedly, the last contact he (or anyone, for that matter) had with Joey was an argument over how Joey was bathing their baby; in a "dirty sink". The baby was found deceased in a bathtub, of all places. My guess is that Joey was in a deep state of mourning over something horrifically tragic that had already occurred when she was spotted walking down the street with the (supposedly empty) baby stroller. Also, Joey's car coming and going from her home after her disappearance (Was the boyfriend the only one who noticed this?), the timing of the fire, the place and way the car was parked... I really don't have much to add, but it all just seems like too much of a coincidence (and something that was possibly staged to point every finger towards Joey).

watched the disappeared episode about Joey for the millionth time last night, and still don't know what to think. Such a sad, strange case.

Bumping this today as Joey Lynn's daughter reminded the followers of Joey Lynn's Facebook page that today is the anniversary of her disappearance!

Prayers to her family and especially her children!

Isn't there something we can do to help provide answers to her family who misses her so much?!?!?!

Thank you for sharing! It's been 8 years this week and we still have no answers.
