Philadelphia 76ers player Kelly Oubre Jr. hurt in hit-and-run incident

Philadelphia 76ers' Kelly Oubre Jr. was injured when he was struck by a hit-and-run driver Saturday night while walking near his home, police and team officials said.

The 27-year-old Oubre was hospitalized with a broken rib and injuries to his hip and right leg, according to the Philadelphia Police Department.

Oubre, who joined the 76ers this year after playing three seasons with the Charlotte Hornets, was walking near his home in downtown Philadelphia's Center City neighborhood when he was struck at an intersection, police said in a statement.

The vehicle was traveling west on Spruce Street at a high rate of speed before it turned south onto Hicks Street and struck Oubre in the chest with its driver's side mirror, according to police.

The silver car fled the scene, according to police. No arrests have been announced.

wow, I am an avid NBA fan and just saw him play against my Pistons. Stuff happens - this SOUNDS like an accident, but to run from the scene? not smart, they will find you. I wonder if there is more to it but do know that accidents happen.

PPD says no video evidence yet of the incident or the alleged car. Yet. However, video from Oubre's Ring shows him arriving at home and telling his wife about the incident, about 36 seconds long.

On Wednesday, police told FOX 29's Jeff Cole that investigators do not currently have any video or photographic evidence showing Oubre was struck by a vehicle. However, they are continuing to investigate the incident.

A source says Oubre Jr. was likely disoriented, and being new to the area, didn't know where he was.
