Deceased/Not Found PA - Laura Thompson, 15, New Castle, 7 Jan 1993 *S. McDonough guilty*

I'm glad she turned them in...but she rode along while they dug up the body and she's not being charged with anything?! Sounds like she just wants all the marital assets.

Statute of limitations is probably up on anything she was directly involved in, and without her they have no prosecution so they probably would have made a deal anyway.

I tool would question her motives for coming "clean" at this point in time. I doubt it has anything to do with the victim, her family, or feeling guilty.

Ah! Thank you =) My little brain was only focused on the one thing. Thanks! =D

What a sad story. Sounds like Laura may have taken off in search of a better life and instead met up with these two evil losers.

I'm glad her family knows now, but this woman should have come forward looooooooooooooong ago. They were only engaged when he told her, but she went ahead and married him anyway and then waited 17 years to spill it. Shame on her.

Off topic fairy, but I've read a few cases where that happens where the woman will go ahead and marry the person who murdered her child, even knowing before the marriage that the man was either a suspect or he did do it and hadn't been suspected. It never fails to boggle me. JMHO.

Hi, Fuzzy77, from another local WSer!

I feel so bad to know that Laura suffered so much and her son is now an adult who grew up not knowing what became of his mother. Prayers go out to her family.

I trust LE will look into the whereabouts of both men during the last 17 years, because if you read the absolutely depraved things they claim to have done before and after the murder, it just seems hard to believe that they did something this heinous and downright hateful (seemingly out of nowhere, since I haven't seen any mention of a motive) then lived as law-abiding citizens for nearly two decades afterward. Hmm... :waitasec:

Another local here...I can't believe the soon to be exwife married this killer in the first place... I saw this on the news last night. Hopefully they can find Laura's remains and give her the proper burial that she deserves. I hope these two jerks that killed her get life in prison...

It was just stated, that LE knows where Laura was buried and her body spread about in a field.
Now for the search for her to have a proper burial.

3 knew this secret for 17 years! Imagine living with that?
now 1 is talking and the 2 men are admitting the story also............

There is hope for all victims of vicious crimes........
sooner or later LE gets their guys!!!!

I just heard this news too--saw it on TV last night and again tonight. I sent the news links off to Doe Network so they can update the page for Laura. (I guess she's still technically missing, since they haven't recovered a body yet).

Hard to believe this went for so long without anyone turning the two men in, especially in the Pittsburgh area. For those not familiar with the city, it's basically a small town disguised as a city, where news always seems to travel very quickly (think of how news got spread around your high school and you have how Pittsburgh feels sometimes).

Please pray for the 18 year old. I am one semester away from becoming an educator and have observed firsthand what can happen when tragic news and events strike our youth. These sort of youths need support and guidance in times like this, especially when the news is widespread in the media.

LE is now searching for Laura's body:

Could there be a possible connection to the unsolved murders of Sarah Boehm, 14, of Rochester, PA and Kathryn Menendez, 17, of Portage County, Ohio? Sarah lived less than 30 miles south of New Castle when she disappeared a year and a half after Laura did.

You mean to tell me that in 17 years this woman could not find an oppurtunity to tell the police, because she was scared but now all of the sudden that she is getting a divorce and its her life directly affected she is no longer scared? OMG THEY SHOULD CHARGE THIS WOMAN FOR with holding evidence, assessory after the fact, impeding an investigation and anything else they can find to charge her with. HOW FREAKIN SELFISH!
She was not scared she is greedy and selfish

I agree, but I think they need her to testify against the other two. It sucks that it has to work that way, but it does. No doubt in my mind she turned in the husband as pay-back over the divorce. At least her mother now knows what happened to her.

I'm wondering what the "wire tap" laws are in PA...most states include in-person conversations in that law...if she violated anything, that confession will be thrown out =p For example, in VA, you can record with only one persons consent, whereas in FL you need both parties consent. In VA, you can't record conversations where the person has a "reasonable expectation of privacy", but could record in public or at a restaurant.

The weather is better here today, so hopefully the will be able to find her body today.

So she knew about a murder for all those years and she doesn't get anything for covering up and with with-holding information?

So...that means that his confession will perhaps be thrown out if it's a two party consent state...bummer. Thanks for looking that up, Missizzy =) Hopefully the prosecutors can somehow keep it in the game.

http://www.ncnewsonline.com/man-ple...cle_7bad8e66-b1e0-11e4-9ea9-d738077dc1d9.html

A man charged with killing a 15-year-old girl in 1993 pleaded guilty yesterday to third-degree murder. Sentencing for Sean M. McDonough, 42, of Thibodaux, La., is set for Feb. 17. Under terms of the plea, he expects to be sentenced to eight to 16 years in prison...

According to police reports, Marshall’s wife went to the police in September 2010, saying her husband had confessed to her that he and another man had killed a red-haired teenager named Laura in 1993. New Castle police arrested Marshall on Sept. 25, 2010. He has cooperated with police since his arrest, law enforcement officials have said...

According to police records, the accused said the teen was buried in a shallow grave near a cabin off Route 422 in Shenango Township, then moved to a remote location in Hickory Township three to 18 months later. Police conducted an excavation and an archaeological dig at the Hickory site to look for Laura’s body after the men were arrested, but found nothing.

This week, more than 22 years after Thompson went missing, Sean McDonough was sentenced to eight to 16 years in prison in her murder, and his friend Joseph Marshall pleaded guilty to abuse of a corpse, based on accusations that he disposed of Thompson's body...

Based on the ex-wife's report, police searched property once occupied by McDonough... and a ravine where authorities believed Marshall had disposed of Thompson's body. In spite of a combined effort involving the K-9 SOS search dog service and Mercyhurst College's forensic anthropology department, Thompson's body was never found.

Lamancusa said the body might have been irretrievably buried about 15 years ago, when a farmer dumped a demolished barn and large amount of dirt into the ravine.
