The charges come from allegations that Luis Ortiz sexually assaulted a 6-year-old child. He is charged with 5 felonies. Bond is set at $75,000.

The girl was interviewed by police and Children and Youth caseworkers. She said that Ortiz had abused her sexually over the course of several years, including at a home in Edwardsville.

She said Ortiz told her not to tell anyone or she “would get into a lot of trouble.” She also said she wanted to tell her mother about the abuse but was afraid she would be placed into foster care.
