I was just reading the news article on this, How can anyone do that to their own child?! Where is his biological mom? I couldn't find any thing about her. Surely other family members knew he existed

Scott Schollenberger, the child's biological father, and Kimberly Maurer are each charged with criminal homicide, endangering the welfare of a child and conspiracy.

The DA's office says that Maurer acted as the 12-year-old's stepmother for the past decade.

What absolute horror. A tiny replica of a twelve-year old human being. May he now rest in the peace and the love he never got while here on earth. My heart hurts.

What made LE go to the home? Neighbors -- due to a smell?
Did no relatives visit this family -- ever?

<Sigh> It doesn't matter now, of course, and the couple have been charged with tough-sounding crimes, but....
Just dammit.

Just dammit.

It physically hurts our hearts. Hurts so bad.

Max. He didn't live he existed I believe it was the DA said.

Maurer confided "something" to a neighbor who called the police.

Max was never enrolled in school. He had not been to the Doctor in ten years. Mauer and Schollenberger have three biological children under the age of five who were told to ignore, Max and the indeed plenty to eat in the house.

Where does this go on the karma wheel. I don't understand. For ten years. Ten! You physically torture a child, and keep him from an outside world. Which, BTW "relatives" were quoted as saying either they had not seen the boy in a long time OR they never knew he existed.

Dammit.

Lebanon County District Attorney Pier Hess Graf declined to go into much detail regarding how the situation was discovered. She said that Maurer had spoken to a neighbor, who ended up calling the cops. Police said they found Max naked in his room on the bed on May 26.

So, they both lived at least two other places. Hershey, PA being one of them. Did they bring Max? Perhaps both laces they were not together, but at least one and then on to Annville.

Perpetual suffering.

I’ve been thinking of Max all morning, wondering how and why anyone could do this to a child. Why not just give him up for adoption at age two if they (clearly) didn’t want him? Why torture him daily? :(

Why is this just making the news now if he was found in May?

I will NEVER understand. :(

I will NEVER understand. :(

I never want to. Anyone who could understand it could possibly rationalize it. I hope these freaks get the death penalty.

This poor boy. I can't imagine knowing about a 12-year-old boy and not see him in years. How is that even possible? 10 years is a long time to not have any contact with a child. The grandparents, aunts, uncles or whoever else never even bothered putting a bit more pressure and ask to see or, at the very least, talk on the phone with Max? Nobody thought about requesting a welfare check?
Did his mom pass away? Was she not allowed to have any contact with him?

So many questions :(.

12 year old boys should have life by the tail. They should be flying their bikes downhill. They should be fishing with buddies. They should be swimming, shooting baskets, and getting up to a few pranks. That is disgusting that Max didn't have that.

Some relatives have made public posts on fb about Max. Can’t name them or link to their posts but they are not hard to find. It sounds like dad moved away from all family and ceased contact with them. One relative last saw Max at age 5 and says he was well cared for then but dad was starting to have problems and they offered to help take care of Max for awhile and they never saw dad or Max again after that. Dad may have also hidden Max from mom and his older brother. The older brother posted that he last saw Max 7 years ago and he was happy then.

Thank you! They didn't know where they moved away to? That's why they couldn't ask for a welfare check?
This is so sad. Poor Max. Kind of reminds me of Roman Anthony Lopez in CA and James Alex Hurley in MT.

There is a Facebook group called Justice for Max. It has public posts including one from a relative.
