STROUDSBURG — Somewhere out there may be a family wondering what happened to their 9-year-old child, whose skeletal remains were found in 1969 and never identified or claimed.
The case Allen would especially like to solve is that of a child age 9 or 10.

The case is dated Aug. 26, 1969, but it’s unclear if this is when the remains were found or merely brought to the Coroner’s Office. Not listed is where in Monroe County the remains were found.

The child was white, but still undetermined is the gender (due to the child not having yet reached puberty prior to death) or cause or manner of death.

The child’s remains include only several bones that were found. The only other descriptive details are a height of 43 inches and multiple teeth fillings.

A newspaper article from that time reported the child may have been a 1955 flood victim, but this has never been confirmed, Allen said. The child was nowhere near the ages of several other children who at the time were still missing and suspected to have been killed in the flood.

“With the technology available today, we may be able to find this child’s identity and family,” Allen said.

I thought this child had been positively ID'd. First clip has a typo - flood of '65 instead of '55.

Thank you for newspaper clippings CCJD. Can you please post link to those articles or at least when it was printed in news?

Thank you CCJD. Article in first post was written just yesterday but no such remains of child are listed in Namus. Maybe it is worth to forward those 1969 clippings to coroner, just in case?

Of course, I'd thought of that but the new Monroe County Coroner will take over the first of the year and there's no telling that the woman in the article, Traci Allen (the current Chief Deputy Coroner whose husband is the outgoing coroner) will be kept on. It may be prudent for me to wait til the changeover dust settles. In the meantime, I can research the other cases mentioned.

Thanks for find that! The first article that is recent said these remains were thought to be a girl from the flood but it was never confirmed. Perhaps they have since been able to check DNA and found out they were incorrect about the guess from 1969? It would not hurt to write the current coroner since she wants to solve these cases before her term is up and perhaps it would result in more publicity for the UID. JMO.

If the Lawyer family took responsibility for burying the child in the family plot, I don't think DNA has been run. Plus the article from yesterday states “With the technology available today, we may be able to find this child’s identity and family,” ... so no, I don't think much has been done except looking at the old files.

Oh, and I found where another of the cases mentioned was identified shortly after being found. It really sounds like whoever was in charge there years ago, at least for some of the cases, didn't update the files.

I can't see any MSM update on this case nor is there is record in Namus. Anyone else?
