GUILTY PA - Myrtle Miller, 76, accused for second time of poisoning a husband, Winfield, May 2021 *arrest*

Winfield woman arrested for homicide, accused for second time of poisoning a husband

May 29—Myrle Miller's arrest Thursday in the poisoning of her husband marks the second time she's been brought before a judge on such accusations, only this time it resulted in a homicide charge.

Following a grand jury investigation, state police charged Miller, 76, of Winfield, with first-degree homicide and related counts in the 2018 death of 77-year-old John W. Nichols. She's charged in Union County and is being held without bail in Northumberland County jail.

Then known as Myrle Rovenolt, she was acquitted in July 1988 of attempted homicide by a Montour County jury. Police alleged that she poisoned drinks with ant killer in 1986 and served them to her former husband, her first, Ronald Rovenolt.
Back in the 1970s there was a murder that never got solved in a town close to this. The young lady that was murdered was Patricia Stahl. She was found near Turbotville Pennsylvania and several boys had been questioned. I believe a Rovenolt was questioned. Wonder if there is a connection. In another town near by Milton Pennsylvania also a Dolores Baker went missing.

Hmmmmm she does have a son by the same last name that testified against her. I believe I've heard of Dolores. Thanks for updating. I almost forgot about Myrle.

I checked and didn't see a cold case thread for Patricia.

A woman from Union County is on trial for poisoning her late husband.

Prosecutors say Myrle Miller not only murdered John Nichols, she drained his bank account for years.

Prosecution presented its final witnesses in Miller's homicide trial in Union County.

The jury heard from several members of Nichols' family.

Following. Poisoning someone is the most horrible thing to do to a person. It’s exactly what should be done to her, very slowly !

A Union County woman has been sentenced to life in prison without parole plus up to another 24 years for fatally poisoning her husband in 2018 after depleting his life savings.

Myrle E. Miller, 78, of Winfield, who was in a wheelchair, chose not to say anything Friday before specially assigned Lehigh County Senior Judge Edward R. Reibman imposed sentence.

Silow argued that Nichols appointed Miller as the power of attorney, which gave her the ability to act for him. Any money used was from a joint account, not specifically Nichols’s money, he argued.

The jury assumed that Nichols would not have given permission to Miller for the purchases made, Silow argued.

The purchases were not “grandiose,” said Silow.

Silow also argued that the commonwealth only proved that Nichols died, not that he was killed. No evidence was presented to show that Miller was responsible for the death, Silow said.

Appeal pending for convicted killer

Lehigh County Senior Judge Edward Reibman in May denied Miller's post-sentence motion and affirmed the conviction. Miller in June then appealed her conviction to the state Superior Court.

Myrle Evelyn Smith, 79, of New Berlin, died Tuesday in a hospital from natural causes, according to the state Department of Corrections. She was serving her sentence at the Muncy state prison.

Her obituary, provided by the family, makes no mention of the man she married after Nichols’ death.

Miller also was linked to another high-profile case, the disappearance of her 3-year-old grandson Corey Edkin.

Miller (Smith) is survived by seven other adult children, 25 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

Her funeral will be private.
