GUILTY NY - Dr. Mary Yoder, 60, fatally poisoned, Whitesboro, 22 July 2015 #2

I just learned about this case, so sorry it has been posted or discussed before, but I found a letter from the victim's own sister who supports KC's innocence and points the finger at the husband instead:

I don't know what to believe, but the relationship between the husband and the victim's sister seems troubling to me.
I don’t find it troubling. I kind of get it. He was 70 and didn’t want to be alone. Sometimes older people don’t waste time when their own is ticking short. The sister was a widow too. I don’t think they planned it but I could see how it might happen.
These sisters all seem estranged or something. Weird relationship.

I just watched the Hulu documentary and knew nothing of the case previously. You know, I was on her side until the final episode. All that digital evidence is pretty damning and the way that she answered the film makers a couple of times was pretty off putting. I don’t know what she was trying to do but I don’t really think she intended for her to die. But what else did she want? The lady to get sick, poop herself? But why? And the chick from LA that took the phone call about the drug… why would she lie? Let me state, all I know is the documentary and I plan to read more into it.

If you’re a reader, I highly recommend the book We Thought We Knew You by M. William Phelps. He really lays out all the info quite well. I’m pretty sure he commented in the Hulu doc (although it may have been a different show about this case). eBay has a bunch of copies for around $5.
I do go back and forth about if Katie meant for her to die. I think the jury did too and that’s why she was guilty of the lesser charge. But I definitely think she did it. I think she’s nuts, hell bent on getting revenge when someone leaves her/doesn’t want to be with her. She had something w/a prior boyfriend and then the fake pregnancy and fake violence issues.

Yea I read a little more about it…how the boyfriend had an alibi and he had gotten sick from one of her vitamin regimens one time. I’ll keep an eye out for that book. If anything, I have a library card

...All that digital evidence is pretty damning and the way that she answered the film makers a couple of times was pretty off putting.

I'm so glad you mentioned noticing that. Answering the film makers, smirking, yeah, there's something strange about her. Her smiling seemed like inappropriate duper's delight or something. In those smirking moments, I saw a side to her I wouldn't trust. MOO

I definitely think she wanted to hurt the ex bf and was out for revenge, possibly attempting to frame him. It just backfired. Yes, IMO, like you pointed out, she does have past history of seeking revenge and trying to get others in trouble.

My own questioning thoughts-- What if Mary didn't die? How would she have worked the intention to frame him then? I'm also not sure if she intended to kill Mary. It seems she got carried away in thinking she had a great plan-- hiding the Rx in his car, and writing that letter. In reality, that was such a stupid move. MOO

If she didn’t write the letter, I’m not so sure anyone would be caught. Seems like they didn’t know anything until the note…

It seems that way in the documentary, doesn't it? However, surely LE was still uncovering evidence. It seems LE would've figured it out when they tracked where the Rx came from and talked to that woman at the Rx place. But you're right, seems Katie definitely helped them catch her scheming self.

I believe she is guilty and the recent documentary really doesn't make her look good. However, the motive(s) stated in this case do not make sense.

Thing is, you can see the small town policing. They may not have gotten that far without her. They may have never found the bottle.

Welcome to WS, @Mr.Dandy.

If not the Rx bottle, LE needed to find out who ordered the Colchicine. All packages delivered might've been one way they could trace it back to the supplier. The supplier knew they talked to a woman even though the order was from Adamisgay email. There would've been computer evidence too. I certainly hope LE knows how to investigate an obvious murder.

If you go back to the beginning threads of this forum you'll find more actual facts and not have to rely on just the sensationalism of the documentary. This is an old case for me now, and details have slipped my mind over the 9 1/2 yrs. since I started following the case.

All I can say is she wasn't all that smart. LE may sometimes take a long time, or miss evidence, cases may even go cold, but usually eventually, they put it together and make the arrest.

MOO-- She may not have meant to kill Mary, but IMO, it stands to reason, the motive was that she was out for some kind of revenge against her ex-boyfriend, Mary's son, Adam. The rape allegations she tried accusing him of show she was out to get him in trouble before the colchicine poisoning of Mary.

She was proven to be the one ordering the drug. Months later, she couldn't leave it alone, still out to hurt Adam, while Mary's death was still in a mystery stage, she had to push it further still, wanting to get Adam in trouble. Writing that letter to LE pointing to Adam, framing Adam after his mother had been poisoned to death. Looks like she was out for pay back to Adam for hurting her. Mary was just unfortunate, collateral damage.

Regarding a summer 2014 rape allegation Conley had leveled against Adam Yoder, Martino said he could see text messages between the two parties regarding the incidents, but by reviewing source data of images of body bruises Conley sent to to Adam Yoder as proof, he found that photos of a bruised shoulder had been taken in November 2013, and photos of a bruised wrist and a bruised foot were taken in November 2014.

Sly and sneaky, IMO.

But if she was going after the ex-boyfriend, why harm the mother with whom he didn't have a good relationship with anyways?

Looking at it from a different angle it makes sense.
That he didn't have a good relationship with his
mother only lends to the idea he might've poisoned his mother. Either, in Kaitlyn's mind, it would've been too obvious to poison him (again), or the whole point of poisoning the mother was to frame him. Writing that letter to LE sure lends to that plan-- to frame him and sit back and watch him suffer. Can you see it as her trying to set him up?

That he didn't have a good relationship with his mother lends to the idea that he might've poisoned his mother, it doesn't lend to the idea that Conley poisoned her to somehow get back at him supposedly. Just to be clear, I do think she is guilty, I just have never quite understand her motive.

Kaitlyn Conley released from prison as Oneida DA mulls plans after conviction overturned
Wed, February 5, 2025 at 11:33 AM PST·2 min read

The State Appellate Division in Rochester heard her appeal and overturned her conviction, citing the handling of evidence by the Oneida County Sheriff's Office and a lack of effective counsel.

[...]

...what the case looks like without that evidence, and then make a determination if there’s enough to go forward with the grand jury.”

WHAT? I was not expecting that at all..

I repeat... Kaitlyn is now out! Freed for now.

Seven years in prison, two trials and now this. She's out for now, and the courts have to decide whether to take this further. Kaitlyn's family seems to have stood by her through it all. Reading the comments under the article, it does make you wonder. Who poisoned Mary Yoder?

The appeals court ruled that if Conley’s first trial attorney had made the motion to suppress the evidence pulled from her phone, it would have been successful and could have changed the outcome of the case.

Ridiculous! She’s a killer.

  • #219
I would be shocked if the prosecutors don't retry her.
