GUILTY Pa - One Adult, 20 Students Stabbed At Murrysville High School, 9 April 2014

  • #381
The teachers are back today. Students can go tomorrow and walk the halls then Wednesday all classes resume.

My son's friend came home from the hospital Saturday!!! He is doing pretty good all things considered!

I am so happy that your friends son will be ok. Did he know AH? Or was AH actually a stranger to him? Did the children see AH deteriate through the school year??? Just curious. A couple children knew him, some knew of him and some not??? random??? TIA

There was an article in The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette a few days ago about the Pa. Juvenile Justice System. According to the article, the year 2010 brought changes because there was a line of thought among some that juvenile facilities were considered better for juvenile suspects who had committed adult crimes. I can understand how this would be preferable in some situations, but not in this particular case. AH committed a crime more violent than most criminal adults are capable of.

Sorry I can't provide a link. I've been trying to get it to work for the past 2 days & literally can do nothing to get it to connect. Possibly the link won't work for me because I'm not a subscriber.

pghbrandi, or anyone else in the area, do you have any information on this subject? I would appreciate hearing your thoughts on this subject & if any can provide a working link, I would appreciate that too. TIA

Watching WTAE TV news and AH made 2 threatening calls the night before.
The children threatened were NOT the injured. He stabbed and injured randomly.
The one boy has had 4 operations, is awake now and talking. Another boy had 3 operations. and 2 more are still hospitalized. Students with parents, therapy dogs and counselors went back to school. No studies today, more about emotional.

FBI agents seize cellphone from Alex Hribal's school locker, several items from his Murrysville home

"Computers, iPods, an iPad, gaming consoles and video games are among the items that have been removed as evidence from the home of the Franklin Regional High School stabbing suspect Alex Hribal, according to a search warrant inventory. FBI agents also seized a cellphone from his locker at Franklin Regional High School.

A notebook with writing in it and a Chicago Cutlery holder with two knives missing are also listed on the inventory of items taken from the Hribal home in Murrysville during the search last week.”

”Murrysville Police Chief Thomas Seefeld confirmed Wednesday FBI agents seized a cellphone from inside a book bag that was inside Hribal's locker. Agents are now in the process of examining the phone and extracting potential evidence.”

Curious as to what these would be in connection to the stabbing incident????

Thanks to you & others in the area for keeping the rest of us updated. Here in Texas this story has faded from the news almost as if the incident never happened. I am really interested in what made AH tick. In the end, I think we'll find that no one really 'knew' the real him or if they did, they ignored warning signs.

Why is he referred to as 'the actor' in some articles? Sometimes they use his name and sometimes the actor! Hope that's not a silly question! TIA
I noticed that too, and don't really have an answer, although I think I have seen the same verbiage recently in another case and can only guess that it is some trend to change the way the language is used.

It might be a way to talk about the suspect without using his name (which is another trend or the same trend, ie: Anderson Cooper tries to avoid using the names of people like Adam Lanza, or the Boston Bombers, etc.). Or the bombing victim who was supposed to appear on 'Meet The Press' and walked out because they (the NEWS program) deigned to use the name of the bomber/s.

It might be a way avoid having jury trials removed to other locations because of pre-trial publicity.

It might be a way to take the use of the term by conspiracy theorists away from them.

I don't know, those are just some guesses, but I personally think its a stupid use of the word. And, I really like Anderson Cooper but he has a few peculiarities about how to report news that I really don't agree with, and not using the name of the killer is the major one, for me.

The incident was supposed to have been over in five minutes, but curiously many of the early accounts said it went on for a half-hour at least:

Fox reporting this kid rampaged for almost an hour before a security guard tackled him.

The 16-year-old suspect..., was said to have lashed out at passersby in a corridor and classrooms during a half-hour rampage....

An article penned three days later seems to suggest a compromise timeline

Sixteen minutes. That's all it took for healthy kids from nice homes — and the security guard determined to protect them — to be bloodied by a seemingly emotionless teen thrusting two knives at anyone and everyone in his path. In just 16 minutes, heroes were born, mettle was tested, innocence lost.

But that's still a long time for an ongoing act of mass violence, especially in a school with at least three security people.

It is a long time. I know, that I, for one, am slow to react to unexpected situations. If a gun had been used, the sound would have alerted other students & teachers. In this situation with a knife being used, it probably took longer for people to realize exactly what was happening. I know, in this day & time, we should all be more aware that violence could happen at any time & any place when we are in public. However, when I go to the mall or grocery, I never think of getting shot or stabbed. I think I need to wake up to the sad facts of life.

This curious remark was made by the suspect's attorney:

"I'm not sure he knows what he did, quite frankly," (Hribal's lawyer, Patrick) Thomassey said.

This is eerily similar to statements made by the attorney of another young man who went on a similar rampage exactly a year before at a Texas college:

But (Quick's attorney, Jules)Laird said: "I think he's still trying to figure out in his own mind what happened as far as he's concerned," Laird said.

Details of Dylan Quick's razor rampage at Lone Star College near Houston which injured 14 people.

Also of note was the curious spate of stabbings in Canada at the same time period:

Gateway Middle School in Monroeville, PA alerted to a possible threat after a student was found with a list of 25 students he allegedly wanted to harm, as well as himself.

He left a note saying he couldn't wait to see the "helpless looks" on the faces of students as he was stabbing them.

According to the criminal complaint assistant, vice principal Samuel King grabbed Hribal in the bloody hallway and took him to the floor.

Hribal allegedly refused to drop the two knives he was carrying and said, "No, I am not dropping them, my work is not done, I have more people to kill," King said.

What about parents, relatives, friends and neighbors? Did everyone ignor this boy???? He definitely had/has mental problems. JMOO

I'm beginning to think that this Hribal may be beyond rehabilitating and may need to be locked up for life ! :maddening:
