I wonder if it's the same cause as the Boston natural gas explosions in 40 homes last fall? Our gas lines really need to be checked for safety at least in the northeast where all these explosions are happening.

Danielsville isn’t all that far away (roughly 15 miles) from Allentown, PA, where the cause of a 2011 natural gas explosion that killed 5 was determined to be the very old pipes used by utility company UGI. IMO, it’s possible they might be to blame for this explosion, too.

Lehigh Valley 2011 Top Stories: #1: Gas explosion kills 5 in Allentown

One quote from that article that stood out to me:
“UGI has admitted much of its pipes are old, outdated and need replacing. This raised fears something like this could happen again. ‘If I were not only a resident of Allentown, but of the Lehigh Valley I would be quite concerned,’ Allentown Mayor Ed Palowski said.”

Also, I believe there’ve been some efforts in PA over the last 5-6 years to pass a statewide ban on “fracking” (hydraulic fracturing to produce natural gas), but IIRC they’ve been as yet unsuccessful. I mention this because one of the state’s most desirable areas for “fracking” (a huge mineral deposit known as “Marcellus Shale”) is located just a bit north of the upper Lehigh County area where this explosion happened. Just some ideas, and, as always, MOO!
