Oh, those poor parents. How horrifying. As if losing a child isn't bad enough.

Oh my gosh.
Can you imagine being this babies parents?
I don't understand... I mean... I can understand an error, and I think I can understand misplacing some organs (not a thought I would ever be typing out), but I can't understand discovering the error and dealing with it by putting an infant coffin with the remains out on the sidewalk. I wonder if the person who made the error didn't want to fess up to it, but wanted to return the bag to the family??
The funeral for the infant was held in New Jersey, Jones said, so it is not yet clear why the casket was left in Philadelphia.
Police have been in touch with the child's family, and they hope to reunite the organs with the baby's body. However, the child has already been buried, so the remains would have to be exhumed in order to bury the organs with the baby, Jones said.
He didn't know there were organs inside. ok.. so based on that he was leaving an empty child-sized casket on the street in another state. Still doesn't make any sense. This is weird and awful in so many ways.Police: Family 'quite upset' after casket with buried baby's organs found on street
Police also say the employee who left the casket on the sidewalk didn't know there were organs inside, and it's possible they'd been place in the casket after an autopsy.
A New Jersey funeral home worker has admitted to dumping a child-sized casket containing a deceased baby’s organs on a Pennsylvania sidewalk earlier this week.
According to police, the funeral home director, whose name has not yet been released, contacted investigators in Philadelphia on Tuesday and reported one of his employees had acknowledged dumping the casket.
According to Jones, the organs belong to a baby between 3 and 4 months of age who was buried in South Jersey last Thursday.
Or someone might have panicked and made a stupid decision in an attempt to hide the error. The person who left the casket might not have been the person who forgot to move the organs to the new casket.
Someone is going to be in big trouble.
That makes sense. My experience is based on the death of my 6 month old nephew. His death required an autopsy, as most child deaths do. We had 2 funerals in 2 different states. The one in which he died, and then again after we brought him home. In my case, the organs were in fact in a bag in the casket.
Maybe the funeral director was trying to somehow make me feel better about it by saying it was a normal part of preparing the body.

You may be thinking of Julie Mott, whose body disappeared from a funeral home after the service. That case hasn't been resolved that I've seen, but her ex-bf still appears to be the prime suspect. How awful! It reminded me of the lady whose body was taken from a church I think, after the service... was she ever found?
