Several officers wounded in shooting in Philadelphia
Philadelphia police swarmed the area near a shooting in the city where several officers were injured, Sgt. Eric Gripp said Wednesday via Twitter.

“Shooting incident 3700 N 15th Street. Suspect/(s) firing at police. Large police presence. AVOID AREA,” he wrote. “Several PPD Officers have been injured.”

Gripp said the “shooting situation” was active and ongoing.

Gripp, a spokesman for the public affairs office, also asked media helicopters to “pull back.”

At least one suspect is in custody, according to police. Officers continue to search for a possible second gunman.

Frantic calls from responding officers came in around 4:30 p.m., according to audio obtained via Broadcastify.

"Officer calls for everything you got. SWAT, long gun," a law enforcement officer can be heard saying on the audio. "I got an officer shot."

SkyForce10 was over the scene as an unidentified gunman fired at dozens of officers nearly 30 minutes after police descended on the corner of 15th and Butler streets.

Mayor Jim Kenney is on his way to the hospital. A lockdown is also in effect at Temple University's Health Sciences Center campus. The school put out an alert for students to take a shelter in place.

Police: Gunman shooting at police officers in Philadelphia

Video shows a massive police presence with dozens of police cars and officers, many of them with guns drawn.

One officer appeared injured and was taken away in a police car. Video also showed two other officers carrying a man and putting them in the back of a car.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives says numerous agents are responding to the scene to assist Philadelphia police.

At Least 6 Philadelphia Police Officers Shot During Active Firefight In Nicetown-Tioga Section, FOP President Says
At least six Philadelphia police officers were shot during an active firefight in Philadelphia’s Nicetown-Tioga section and rushed to the hospital on Wednesday afternoon, the president of the Fraternal Order of Police said. Another officer suffered a non-shooting injury during the incident.

The officers were taken to Temple University Hospital, where dozens of officers have surrounded the hospital.

Police tell CBS3 that the injuries the officers sustained are believed to be non-life-threatening.

Police say a male shooter is still inside the property at scene. CBS3 reports that police have entered the building where the suspect or suspects are still inside.
