When I find myself in times of trouble
Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom
Let it be
And in my hour of darkness
She is standing right it front of me
Speaking words of wisdom
Let it be Let it be, let it be
Let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom
Let it be
And when the broken hearted people
Living in the world agree
There will be an answer
Let it be
For though they may be parted there is
still a chance that they will see
There will be an answer
Let it be

I am with you on Lennon. It is true that Paul wrote that song about his mother? Being catholic, ya know I was only allowed to consider on Mother Mary... smile.

  • #286
Ya know Im usually a fount of musical trivia but I dont remember what Paul's inspiration for that one was supposed to be .:)

  • #287
I don't know if this is true but this is what I found about the inspiration behind "Let It Be".

Let It Be (song) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

McCartney said he wrote "Let It Be", after a dream he had had about his mother during the tense period surrounding the Get Back/Let It Be sessions. McCartney explained that his mother—who died of cancer when McCartney was fourteen—was the inspiration for the "Mother Mary" lyric. McCartney later said, "It was great to visit with her again. I felt very blessed to have that dream. So that got me writing 'Let It Be'." He also said—in a later interview about the dream—that his mother had told him, "It will be alright, just let it be."

You're welcome. I had never heard that story before. It definitely makes a song more interesting to know the story behind it.

Here I am butting in again ...

Hey Jude - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Originally titled "Hey Jules", the ballad was written by Paul McCartney—and credited to Lennon/McCartney—to comfort John Lennon's son Julian during his parents' divorce...

In 1968, John Lennon and his wife Cynthia Lennon separated due to his affair with Yoko Ono. Soon afterwards, Paul McCartney drove out to visit Cynthia and Julian, her son with Lennon. "We'd been very good friends for millions of years and I thought it was a bit much for them suddenly to be persona non gratae and out of my life," McCartney said. Later, Cynthia Lennon recalled, "I was truly surprised when, one afternoon, Paul arrived on his own. I was touched by his obvious concern for our welfare.... On the journey down he composed 'Hey Jude' in the car. I will never forget Paul's gesture of care and concern in coming to see us."

The song's original title was "Hey Jules", and it was intended to comfort Julian Lennon from the stress of his parents' divorce. McCartney said, "I started with the idea 'Hey Jules', which was Julian, don't make it bad, take a sad song and make it better. Hey, try and deal with this terrible thing. I knew it was not going to be easy for him. I always feel sorry for kids in divorces ... I had the idea [for the song] by the time I got there. I changed it to 'Jude' because I thought that sounded a bit better." Julian Lennon discovered the song had been written for him almost twenty years later. He remembered being closer to McCartney than to his father: "Paul and I used to hang about quite a bit—more than Dad and I did. We had a great friendship going and there seems to be far more pictures of me and Paul playing together at that age than there are pictures of me and my dad."

Yes,:) what she said!
I thought it was pretty cool inspite of the sometimes advesarial relationship between John and Paul,Paul took time to visit Julian and Cynthia in the wake of the divorce.
how are things going in DMV's world this week? Good I hope.

Hiya Kline...

Yeah, peace is one of those life long explorations. You probably already know that it requires allowing yourself at least 30 minutes a day to sit quietly with the world and clearing the mind. Dedicating time to some how touching nature. Also, dedicating time to rethinking about all the good. For example, in all this horror, I found peeps on this site that I dont even know who supported my family. Kindness and goodness to balance the horror. all this is type of mind work...is where I "search" for peace. smile

Jersy girl, et al... Richie was a huge Bruce fan. ( ME TOO!) as big a fan as I am, I dont believe I know which of his songs were written for or about anyone. I'd love to learn that...

Ive been a huge Springsteen fan for years ever since 'Darkness on the Edge of Town'when I was in High School.
That and 'The River' are my two favorite albums.
Though'Jungleland' off "Born To Run' would be in my top ten favorite songs of all time list.
That Sax solo by Clarence....Speaking of Peace that does it for me everytime.
I liked it back then when I felt like I was the only person in the northwest who knew who he was so my musical elitism took a hit when he blew up so huge with 'Born in The USA' and all the sudden 14 year old girls at the mall were wearing Tshirts with his face on them(Or his 🤬🤬🤬 in the case of born in the usa).I still love him and the Estreet band.:) He's one of the main reasons I picked up a fender guitar all those years ago.
Bruce and Buddy Holly.

wait a minute Kline....:) You cannot be a bruce elitist if you did not bring up Greetings from Asbury park... and The East Street Shuffle. I was about 13 when I found Bruce... ( had a few friends that were older then me. go figure. When I was 15 they let me drive with them to asbury park to see if we could find him. We did not, but what a ride...

And how about the Main Point, concert. He was a nobody then, except for those of us in the audience who just knew greatness was coming. All his under ground sounds... were great. I hape the on 8 track. I would tape them off of wmmr.

You can see a tribute to Richie by his friend Tommy Pell on www.richardpetrone.com Tommy made a vidio of Richie and himself at Shay stadium in NY. The song is Missing Bruce is singing live. It is really a tear jerker, but amazing.

Go to this link... and scroll to the bottom. you will c tribute vidio to rich by tom pelle.

A fan's opinion of the inspiration behind the "Tunnel of Love" album:

"The collapse of Bruce Springsteen's marriage to his first wife Julianne was undoubtably the main inspiration behind this beautiful and reflective album..."
