Oh Shellz.... strength for you.

Oh no :( I got so busy on other threads... I'm so sorry. That just happens sometimes and I assumed there had been no news.
My heart is so heavy.

really, and if he hadn't of come out swinging he wouldn't be in jail- looks like he got himself a little sityation huh, might need to sit there and cool down some more

Well, this guy's probably facing life in prison, if that doesn't define a flight risk, I don't know what does.

Besides, I don't think the officers particularly want to be assaulted again when they come back for him.

I'm not sure how to quote so bear with me here... Quotes from link: The Altoona Mirror (http://bit.ly/16yFbk6 ) says Leighty's attorney contends he's being jailed to punish him and buy time for investigators. A Blair County judge has set a May 17 hearing on the bail request. The attorney hasn't returned a call for comment.... End of quote.

IMO him sitting in jail without a lower bond is to buy investigators time, but I don't think it's wrong. It would be one thing if he wouldn't have confessed to his son about killing Sherry, but on his property where he confessed to leaving her... I have no doubt that he has done this. IMO he is a threat to society, should be denied any bail, he has proven this by fighting with LE.

What I do question is if he did it alone. Either way he deserves to sit in jail and think about what he's done, he's the one that got himself there in the first place.

Btw, if I were him I would be begging to stay in jail with the media attention this case is finally getting.

I wonder if national media will pick it up . It definitely fits the bill. I'm just still so mad at this guy. I wonder if he was a kind, involved, doting grandfather . I'm so sad for Sherry's babies who have lived their whole life as a lie at the hands of their own grandfather. Hang in there Shellz. We're all thinking of you !

I've just read this entire thread. So, so sad for Shellz and her family, what they've had to endure all this time.

It seems obvious to me right from the start - from their Dad's reporting of Sherry being missing, and just from what is written from page one onwards of this thread - what must have happened regarding Sherry's disappearance. Why on earth didn't the police look into this right away, and they could have saved the family years and years of distress. None of the Ex family's story makes any sense - why wasn't it looked into and why weren't they questioned? Makes me so angry to think that LE did nothing all these years.

Hoping that Sherry can be indentified and given a dignified burial, and Shellz and her family can have some peace. Hopefully they'll be able to take a big part in the children's lives and tell them all the good things they never had a chance to find out about their mum.

Shellz, prayers are with you, Sherry's kids and the rest of your family. What a bitter-sweet moment this must be. Going on the assumption this is Sherry, she is finally coming home......Bless you for never giving up on your sister. You are one hell of a lady and I hope if I ever go missing I have someone with your drive and loyalty looking for me. to you Shell! You are amazing!

Thank you MODS for highlighting this case. Sherry deserves attention after all these years when only her family was thinking about her.

Thanks everyone for all your kind words & support through all of this. I can't begin to express how grateful I am to everybody for being there for me. I am hoping this week brings more progress with my sister's case & one step closer at bringing her home so she can finally be at rest. This fight is far from over but first and foremost we need to find Sherry. Thanks again friends for everything. ~Shelly

God Bless you for never giving up. As soon as the criminal aspect of this case gets underway, it might just make sense to talk to a civil attorney. Your family should be compensated (to the extent one can be in a situation like this), for the pain and suffering you have all experienced. If this man *is* guilty, make sure he pays in every way possible, including any proceeds he may earn from whatever.

Shell- I'm sorry that LE repeatedly failed your family early on in this case, as it is part of their job duties to be advocates for victims of crime. That said, I am so proud of your hard work and persistence to find the truth. Keeping you in my thoughts!

Hoping this search ends quickly with the discovery of Sherry's remains so she can be given a proper burial!!! Shelly you are everything a big sister should be in that you never gave up and never stopped looking!! Hugs sent to you and your family!!

we have a detective on the case but I feel they aren't doing much of anything. It seems like if it wasn't for my brother & I calling them at least once a week & giving them as much information as possible & people they can talk too, they would do nothing. It's hard to trust a police dept. that has let us down from the beginning. They don't return most of our phone calls & I have to resend emails several times before finally getting a reply back, it's rediculous. I've called the State Police to see if they could help but they told me that the APD is a different entity & they can't come in and take over the case. I even called the FBI & they told me that the police dept would have to contact them if they needed assistance with the case. I would feel much better if someone else was helping on the case that I could trust. This all is very frustrating.

Keep any communication that you have had with any law enforcement. Mho

I'm wondering how the father-in-law explained the abandonment of his truck at the hunting property. And, since he left the truck there, how did he get back home?

Tell you what, I can't imagine what kind of person would tell their grandchildren that their mother is buried under an old outhouse. Was this just openly discussed in that household?

Grandmother is still living, I believe?

I didn't see this thread until this evening, and I read the whole thing ... and at one point there, I was just "omg, omg" every few minutes. This was just overwhelming, reading to this point in one evening! Mixed emotions, sad that Sherry is gone, but glad that the uncertainty is gone for those who love her.

No one could have had a more loving and devoted sister than Sherry did. Were it not for Shell's dogged endurance, Sherry's disappearance would never have been solved, and her children would never know how much she loved them. Hope LE has learned something from this, and glad they finally got off their duffs and acted like real LE. They're taking care of business now!

Shell, you rock as a sister!
