BRADFORD TOWNSHIP – Apparent human skeletal remains were located Friday morning in Bradford Township, Clearfield County.

According to District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr., the remains were located by a hunter in a wooded area off Graham Road in Shiloh.

“This is suspicious … [because] we don’t generally find human remains in the woods,” he said, adding the cause and manner of death remain under investigation.

UPDATE: Clearfield District Attorney Bill Shaw said the bones were discovered by a hunter around 9 a.m.

State police responded to the scene and confirmed the bones to be human.

District Attorney Bill Shaw said a forensic team from Mercyhurst University in Erie will be called in to survey the scene and identify the remains.

Shaw said investigators have to determine the identity of the bones and the reason why they were in the woods.

“The cause and manor of death is our primary goal to determine what happened here, to see if this is a homicide or some other occurrence,” Shaw said. “You don’t normally find human remains in the middle of the woods.”

Shaw said the process could take weeks to months, depending on what is uncovered.

Police will remain on scene overnight and await the arrival of the forensic team Saturday.
