More than 80 first responders were on the scene, combing the woods around State Game Lands No. 66 in Colley Township looking for Walter Booth, the 84-year old hunter who failed to return to his Courtdale home after a hunting trip in these woods.

Search crews found Booth's car along Dutch Mountain Road Wednesday after his wife reported him missing. The rescuers have the left the car there, hoping Booth will find his way back to it. In the meantime, detection dogs and helicopters have been deployed in the area to help with the search.

God Bless him, 84 years old. I have a FIL that is in his 80's and is stubborn- he camps alone at a campground, hikes and bikes alone. While we are glad he takes good care of himself, no one can get through to him that at any age, not just his, someone could get lost, injured, or have an unexpected medical emergency come up, to which a person alone is at a huge disadvantage if no one is on the same path as them.

I hope he's ok, I'm wondering if he might have had a heart attack or stroke and wasn't able to call for help. Or he's injured somewhere. Not to mention, those cross bows can be heavy and if you are not careful, you can hurt yourself using one.

We hike and camp in this area of PA often. It is mountainous, rugged and remote to say the least. Even the roads that lead up into the mountains are remote and often steep. But locals know their way around. I know bow hunting (and hunting) are big time activities up there and I assume Mr. Booth was adept at it. I worry about his age as well, though I'm doubting he would be "just" lost as he was probably familiar with the area. I'm thinking a medical emergency as well. jmo

He is 84 and has been missing since Tuesday. My heart goes out to him and his family. I hope he is found soon.
Interesting, however, that his car was not found until the next day. (Per above article.)
What about those “heat sensor” things?

wnep.com. October 5 reports that Mr. Booth may have gotten caught in bad weather that moved through the area.
The Civil Air Patrol and about 80 volunteers are doing a grid search.

That's what I am leaning towards- medical emergency. We don't know if he has any medical conditions, if he's on any medicines. Or he could have slipped and fell and couldn't get back up. Praying he is found soon, poor man.

This could very well be. It's been raining here off and on the past week. He could have slipped and fell while trying to get out of the woods. Not to mention, a lot of hunters go deep into the woods, he could be anywhere.

Good to see CAP and the all the volunteers out looking for him.

Here is a link to the article. Hoping he was able to find shelter of some sort. Being dressed in a camouflage jacket may make locating him more difficult.

Intense Search for Missing Hunter Continues

This evening’s update:

Missing Luzerne County man spurs extensive search; still no sign | News, Sports, Jobs - Williamsport Sun-Gazette

After five exhausting days, search teams have had no luck finding the 84-year-old avid outdoorsman who went out hunting alone on Tuesday afternoon in tough terrain near here, an area he is very well familiar with, according to John Yonkin, one of those leading the search effort.

“We’ve covered 600 square acres, about one square mile around his car and have found nothing. It’s very rough terrain. Search teams have crawled under bushes and around trees. It’s very wet, like swampy conditions,” Yonkin said.

“It’s been a very thorough search. We covered much of the area (with searchers walking) shoulder-to-shoulder,” Yonkin explained.

My father is 89 and trying to get him realise that at 89 there are somethings you just cannot do anymore is an uphill struggle. "Your as old as you feel" is his favourite quip. I hope this gentleman is found safe, but a medical emergency does sound possible.

This is just so sad! Where could he be?

Awww. How sad. But, for a hunter and avid outdoorsman, he died doing what he loved and in the woods where he loved to be. All such people should be so lucky. Better to pass there than at home in a recliner in front of the tv. Rest in peace, Mr.Booth.

I am very glad there is no suspected foul play. We can be thankful for that.
